Hi,

While I was enjoying the full MIDI recording of the game's soundtrack, I missed the track which plays in the conference room in Starcon (when Beatrice is talking to Starcon captains about her mission), and it also plays in Kiz Urazgubi (when walking on the planet and the WD-40 hasn't shown up yet).

I jumped to the digital audio album to see if it is available there, but it's also missing from the SQ5 audio CD.

Is it possible to fill this gap?  Smiley

Thank you!

Well, I could fill the MIDI gap easily enough. Recording it to MP3 (with Tom's enhancements) would be considerably harder...

Sorry ... I presently don't have any Sierra games installed and am a bit overwhelmed with other projects, but if Ari sent me the MIDI file, I'd be glad to try to enhance it...though, Ari could do just as good a job as I would.

That would be great for starters  Cheesy
I would gladly do it also if you can guide me to the instructions and if it doesn't require some special sort of equipment...
We can then send the MIDI to Tom as he said...

Here's the MIDI file (looped twice).

There are several relatively easy ways to do it yourself. The way I did it was using the SCI Resource Viewer program on the original SQ5 game files, and extracting the music (it's pretty straight forward).

Another way, is playing the game with DOSBox, and using the CTRL-ALT-F8 option for recording the music in real-time.

A third option would be to hook up another computer's sound card to your computer using MIDI cables and, again, recording the music in real-time. This option is probably the more complex of the three.

Great, except that I get a 404 error on the download link  Huh
(I have such problems when I put a link to a file with an extension not supported by the webhost, just rename it or zip it and it should work)

I'm not sure what I would do with something like this -- there not much to it -- a one-note string track with two synths bantering back and forth in a monotonous loop.  My only thoughts would probably rearrange the piece so that there's some additional melody playing on the string track, but you'd end up with a different feel.

Maybe I'll do something with it. Nothing fancy like adding a melody or anything like that.

If any of you guys ever make an MP3 enhancement of this track, let me know. Yes, it's simple, but things like the Tank Theme from PQ3 and the Moonlight Sonata from Zeliard are simple too. And it's catchy as hell, at least to me.

If you're interested, there will be a recording of it on my upcoming SQ5 soundtrack CD (recorded last week). I didn't do much with it, added MT-32 whistles panned (in reverse in stereo) to the SC-55 ocarina's and if I remember right, I added a neat Yamaha XG synth string to the SC-55 one. But I think that was it. Not much you can do with that particular piece of 'music'.
I will say I'm adding extra bits and pieces to the vast majority of the tracks though.

Also included WD-40's entrance sound effect leading into the next track. Originally I had the KU and WD-40 tracks in the one piece but I just don't quite like that any more.

If you want to request it, feel free to post on my forums (smc.sq7.org/forum).
