Hey all,
Finally managed to score a pristine Sc-55 from Japan for a great price. I'm using a Edirol UM-2EX to connect it to my MAC via USB. Got my MT32 working great just can't get the SC-55 to play in dosbox.

Any ideas?

My dosbox.conf has these lines:

mpu401=intelligent
mididevice=coremidi
midiconfig=0

Thanks,
Rob

LOL, got it working. For some reason the dosbox.conf did not save my midi section. I needed to select the ID of my midi device.

This rocks... Ultima 8 sounds very cool now...

Thanks,
Rob

I know it's late, but I am answering in case someone needs help in the future.

In DOSBox (under a plain prompt window) you can type "mixer /listmidi" to get a listing of the midi devices DOSBox can see as well as the device ID assigned to them. With that information you can edit the conf file (like the poster did) and type the device ID (eg, "midiconfig=N"). This is useful for people with multiple midi devices attached to individual midi cables (or with more complex midi setups).

For more information please read this thread.

Hey, thanks for posting that bit of info. My devices are daisy chained, not independently attached, but if they were, I would have went into the Windows midi mapper each time I needed to switch which device DosBox should be using which is a bit of a pain. Changing one number in the DosBox config file is easier for me and does not affect which device Windows itself is set for.

The music on the SC55 is very dark and ambient. A great summary of Pagan. I ended up finishing Ultima VIII for the first time. Very hard to crack. No crashes with the latest patches. I don't know why people complained so much about it? Ultima IX crashes much more.

You can find the score played on a SC-55 here:

http://www.ultima.rabbitslair.de/ultima8.htm

I do wish I has one of these back in 1992 when Ultima VIII was released.

Cheers,
Rob
