A cyber attack seems a little.. harsh, but it is sad news. I feel for 'em tonight. I'd better record the end of this CD before it happens to me. Tongue

Activision has been going this way for ages. And it's not like under Vivendi we were having a blast with the 'new Sierra'. It's just more of the same.

Now I just hope AGDI, IA, Quest Studios, Sierra Gamers, my site, etc are unaffected..

Do not use this forum, even jokingly, to incite people to break laws applicable in the United States, where this board operates.

I just read about this story on Kotaku.   It's a nasty situation, and it certainly doesn't help with my already low opinion of Activision.  (Although I think my disdain for Ubisoft is still stronger.)

I honestly don't understand what Activision hopes to gain with this. Even if they did plan to resurrect the series at some point, how does this help them?

It reminds me of an interview I saw several years ago with this guy from Texas about guns. He was asked by the interviewer why he needs to own so many guns, to which he answered "Because it's my constitutional right to bear arms..." or something along that line.

Anyway, quite a shame.  Undecided

It could be argued that if they planned to resurrect the series at some point (or just keep the option open) this actually was in their best interests. (as morbid as that may sound) TSL was not just another chapter in the ever ongoing KQ series, it was written as the series' definite closure intended to tie up all loose ends the previous games left open. It was also very much a franchise in its own right...the story itself was divided into 9 separate chapters, each chapter (bar the first apparantly) about the size of KQ6. (that's almost like 9 games)

The only games/chapters that were produced so far (and the only ones that WOULD be produced without funding) were the first 2...which was the content that was submitted to Activision for review. So ironically, while the TSL project was intended to tie up all loose ends of the series, only developing the first 2 chapters would create more loose ends than it would tie up.

If the first 2 chapters had been released and adopted as canon by the KQ franchise's target audience (i.e. the KQ fans), it would have actually been more difficult to create a new sequel without getting the TSL project's writing staff on board. Unless the new games were actually the remaining chapters of the TSL project with a commercial license.

Of course, it's still a shame since there's a KQ game the size of KQ6 out there that they aren't allowed to share with the rest of the world.

Well, I thought they would be making 9 smaller chapters rather than making 9 KQ6 sized games. Maybe that's why it was taking so long...

Anyway, I was sorry to read about this, but it's not like this is the first time Activision has been douchy. Here's what Tim Schafer wrote on his Twitter about Activision:

<<Getting mad at Activision for this kind of thing is like getting mad at an ape for throwing feces. It's just how the beast communicates.>>

Granted, I think he was talking about the whole Modern Warfare 2 firing of executives thing, but you get the idea.

While I was eagerly awaiting to see which of my voice files I recorded 4 years ago (!) would make it into the game, I was always under the impression that there was a sort of time limit as to how long they could remain developing the game. I guess the VU Games selloff just pushed things up a bit.

Sorry to see TSL go into indefinite hiatus, and I'm fairly certain that Activision will just sit on the property or try to make a KQ hack-n-slash. Phoenix Studios could just make it an unlicensed fan fiction book, at least to tell us all how they see the ending of KQ to be. Not that it would be satisfying for the staff members that spent the better part of a decade getting this whole thing underway.
