Hi,

I recently acquired some sound blaster 2.0 clone as it seems.
Does anybody recognize this card and know the brand/type and possible introduction date of this card?

That's a curious piece of hardware. Are you sure can produce FM sound? I note a complete lack of Yamaha chips. Maybe it's only for sample playback, unless you add the CMS chips which I presume the sockets are for.

Two custom/unmarked chips and a chip used in the design of fault-tolerant memory systems (the 74LS631). Interesting mix for a sound card Smiley

Let us know what kind of sound you get out of it...

I will test the card tomorrow in an old 386 or 486 PC and see what the sb 2.0 drivers and test utils do.
I also noticed 2 'jumpers' on top of the card, one stating VOICE and the other FM so it seems. I guess it should produce some kind of FM sound then.
The 3 sockets are indeed for CMS chips as there is a CMS jumper (that for some reason has been set enabled even though the chips are not present).

One guy on Vogons said to me it COULD be something like an Anchor Electronics J98MF-002. He has a pic of his version which is much smaller but has exactly the same square-like chip (with the same number) as this card.

Here is the picture of his card.

I have a very similar card to this one. Mine has FM Synth. I used to use it in my old 286 rig. But then (for some reason I can't remember) it blew and now the sound is very very quiet and very very distorted. Pretty much useless now. Also has the 74LS631 chip.

Here's a picture.

I installed this card in an old PC today (not with drivers yet, just with the SET BLASTER command) and it seems to be just what I thought, an SB 2.0 clone. It produces digital sounds and FM music.
