The topic of Stereo FX on a SB Pro 2.0 has been discussed to death in this forum.

However I couldn't find any reference to Games that can be used to test this "compatibility issue".

I am looking for a game that:

- Plays Stereo digital effects on a Soundblaster Pro 2.0
- Plays mono digital effects when you have a Soundblaster 16
- Doesn't have native support for the Sounblaster 16 (e.g. install menu option for SB Pro and SB16)

The early version of Epic Pinball (the one with the original Android table, not Super Android).

Also the early version of Pinball Dreams, the one with Roland LAPC-I support.

I think Ultima Underworld is one of those games too that works stereo on the sb pro but not on the sb16.

But that only applies to the FM music. He was asking about digital effects. Ultima Underworld 1 has no digital effects, only speech, which is mono. (Ultima Underworld 2 has stereo digital effects, but they work on SB16 since they are panned using the mixer registers.)

I was almost sure to remember from back in time, when I "upgraded" to the SB16 (from my SB Pro2) that i lost stereo effects in UUW2, but I guess I was wrong. Sorry. Smiley

Trixter posted that he lost stereo effects in Wolfenstein 3D when he "upgraded" to a Sound Blaster Pro.  We know now that he was incorrect because Wolf 3D also uses mixer panning for stereo sound effects.  I wondered if he possibly could be referring to an early version of Wolfenstein 3D, but even the earliest demos give stereo sound with an SB16.  I suppose he was thinking of another game.

You need a Sound Blaster Pro 1.0 (dual OPL2 chips) to hear stereo FM music with Ultima Underworld, unless you have NRS' patch that adds stereo support to cards with an OPL3 chip.  Ultima Underworld 2 does not seem to support stereo FM music at all.

Epic pinball! Excellent. Didn't this game use something similar to Tracker music? And when you guys say "early version", I take it the later one had native SB16 support.

Just as a side note...

I find it very surprising that the 8 bit digital Stereo FX compatibility issue gets brought up all the time in the forum, almost instantly as soon as someone mentions Sound blaster 16. However there seem to be hardly any games affected by this issue.

It's a interesting technical detail, but it seems practical applications are very hard to find.

So from a Gaming perspective, what benefit does one get in using a Sound blaster Pro over a Sound blaster 16? They are much harder to find these days and it seems that most older games have either mono FX or the ones that have stereo FX, had native support for the SB16 anyway  Huh

The driver does, but the music files themselves contain no panning information, so.
