Hi,
I recently bought an MT-32 on eBay w/o an AC adapter.
Can you recommend me what adapter to buy and where to get one that is compatible with 220V current (preferably on eBay or DealExtreme)?
I know the specs of the original adapter are 9V, 1200ma, center negative.

I bought a Mega Drive 1 replacement adapter of eBay. They match in specs :-)

The ones I have are small and you can fit several next to each other on a power board.

Thanks - However I forgot to mention I need a 220V model (I now fixed my question).
I failed to find a 220V Mega Drive adapter on eBay.

Really?

Plenty over here in Australia!

This is the product I got: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/REPLACEMENT-POWER-ADAPTOR-SEGA-MEGA-DRIVE-1-/120615981744

You can always get a 2nd hand one as well! Shouldn't be hard to fine one!

Hi There,

Not sure if this helps, but I have an SC-55 adapter that works perfectly with both my CM-32LN and my MT-32.  The SC-55 is very common, so I should think the adapters will be easy to come by.

Do a search for model ACI-220J which is my ax adapter model.

I have quite a few Roland modules and they all take the same AC adapter!

Just some more info...

The modules with 2 boards inside (CM-64 and CM-500) need more power. My CM-64 is rated at 1200 and the CM-500 at 1000. The MT-32s have 650 written on them and the CM-32L draws the least with 600mA.

The MT-100 doesn't have any info written on the back, just the ususal "use ACB adapter"...

In Wing Commander the MT-100 totally plays up. All starts fine but as soon as there is a dogfight it falls apart. Hoping it's power related. I have a ton of adapters, but they are all japanese so I ordered a voltage down converter and see if it resolved the issue.

Occasionally I get a stuck instrument on the CM-64 in Wing Commander. It doesn't go away unless you leave the game.

So Wing Commander seems to be a good game to test power related issues! Because under Monkey Island 2 the MT-100 plays fine.

EDIT: Hmm I might just see if the second board on the CM-64 can be disconnected so only the CM-32L part remains. Anyone done this?

Not very practical, once you see when you open the unit.  One of the boards has the audio jacks soldered to it, the other the midi ports.  There is a cable that connects the two units which sends the audio and data appropriately.

Yup that's exactly what I found. Was hoping to be able to swap boards in case a unit fails one day...

Another question. One of my CM units has the BIOS / Firmware with the "Clicking issue". There was a thread on this forum with a sample midi file and early CM units have this issue. It was resolved through a newer BIOS / firmware.

Can I just buy these from Roland? Or send them the chip or the whole unit?

Well I got my AC converter and the MT-100 still falls apart (Starts playing wrong stuff after a while and ends up with a permanent stuck tone) in Wing Commander. I have a MT-32 (new) which works fine, so I guess the MT-100 is faulty...

Works fine in Monkey Island 2, but I haven't done any more testing with other games to be honest.

My CM-64 unis however do not like the original Roland adapters. The midi light just stays on all the time and I get static on the outputs. I tried several Roland adapters but same issue...

The cheap Mega Driver adapter from ebay works fine on the CM-64s however... No idea what's going on there...

CM-32L and CM-500 also work fine with the Roland adapters as well...

Did the CM-64s come with a unique power adapter?

Why are you looking for a power supply on Ebay? You can buy one of those "new" electronically regulated universal power adapters in almost any electronics shop for about 20-25$, even ones that have a capacity of 1000mA or higher. They work great with MIDI modules. I've been using them for several years now with no problems whatsoever.

Well, I use universal 220V power adapters bought in Hungary, and some of them even work with the power-hungry CM-64.

Oh yea there are plenty in the shops. Some rated higher than 1200 as well.

Still why doesn't any of the original Roland adapters work with my CM-64s? I tried all the adapters I have (~7 units). They are all ACB 100 units and a few I also have some ACI 100j units.

Maybe they degrade after a while? Could it be the 220V to 110V converter? Why do only the CM-64s fail and all other models boot just fine?

I guess I will just use the CM-32L in the meantime, draws very little power and slightly less noisy. The MT-32s also draw little power.

It seems to me that the CM-64 draws the most power of all these Roland units. That could be your problem.

I've also had power issues my CM-500: with certain PSU's, the GS part started to sound weird.

Yup that's exactly what I found...

CM-64: 1200mA
CM-500: 1000mA
The MT-32s: 650mA
CM-32L: 600mA.
SC-55MKII: 600mA
SC-55: 500mA
SC-55ST: 450mA

MT-100 doesn't have the mA rating written onto the unit like the other ones but it will likely also be somewhat higher

No, they use the same adapter that the MT-32 and other CM modules use. I've never had a problem using the original adapter on my CM-64 that came with my MT-32 and CM-32L - they're both identical and rated for 1200mA.

Yea it's quite odd...

Can only think of the 110V converter...
