DosBox is very slow on both PSP and GP2X Wiz, it's pretty useless. Suprisingly, there is a rather decent DOS emulator for the less powerful DS. If you have a flash cart, it will run many 286 games at full speed, with VGA graphics and Sound Blaster emulation.

Netbooks (and iPads too, I imagine) work pretty well with DOSBox.

Depending on what games you are into, a lot of adventure games can be purchased for the DS.

Older adventures also work very well with ScummVM.

Yeah, DosBox is fine on my MSI U100 netbook. I can even connect my CM-32LN and have that authentic Roland LA sound.

That wouldn't be very portable though would it Smiley.

Yeah, I wish there was a more modern solution (like an accurate emulator) Smiley. Still, it does run off batteries!

Take a look at the new Toshiba Libretto W100. It's quite small and has a decent cpu.

Sony also has a small hand held. It's features in quite a few movies and TV shows :-)

And Fujitsu has one as well.

They do cost a lot more than a netbook of course.

Have a look at Open Pandora (www.open-pandora.org). It should run DosBox and a lot of other emulators flawlessly..

The Pandora seems to be a very cool device, but if you order one, you're in for a long wait. They still haven't delivered all of the units from the first batch.

The Pandora is the biggest con ever... It's utterly ludicrously priced. I mean, ok, it's probably priced well from their point of view. They'll be getting back their costs in a limited run, but from the end users point of view you could buy a far tech spec superior laptop or even netbook for that and do exactly the same sort of things.

You're only going to get the hardcore plumping for that. I can't see myself ever getting one. Might get two and a half netbooks instead. Tongue

It's smaller than a netbook, but I haven't bought one because they seem unreliable and untrustworthy. And I do get pretty nice emulation on my Android phone with a QWERTY keyboard.

LIFEBOOK UH900 could fit the bill? Pricey, but it's brand new with decent specifications.

Surely any of these would suit me fine for emulation. 50hz refresh rate can be a problem, the majority of the C64 and the Amiga games were European PAL versions and some netbooks cannot be forced to work at 50hz.
