There is a huge chip from NCR on my CT1680. There is also a memory chip right next to it.

Any ideas?

That's the LMSI CD-ROM interface chip. In much the same way that Panasonic, Sony, and Mitsumi drives all had proprietary interfaces, this was Philips/LMSI's own short-lived "standard."

That's cute seeing that this card doesn't seem to have a CD-Rom interface!

I'll upload an image of the whole card...

Here it is:

I also noticed a small header of some sort underneath that chip. It's labeled CM205 interface. Maybe a mini version of a CD-Rom interface?

The LMSI drives have a corresponding header. I couldn't find an actual photograph, inexplicably, but here's a graphic...

Cool!

I was amazed at the size of that chip!

Must have been expensive to produce and put on that soundcard. It's bigger than the actual Creative chip!
