Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a nice website that will allow me to upload and share music for free, and without requiring potential visitors to sign up or log in?

Thanks!

Better:  Dropbox, or another similar cloud service.  Put files you want to share publicly into the "public" folder.

You can provide a URL directly to the file, the visitor not only does not need an account but also does not have to deal with "hunt for the actual file on a page full of ads" issue that many of the previously mentioned services have.

Cloud services like Dropbox can also be used to provide a synchronized folder between all of your PCs and mobile devices.

Just don't put any seriously private information on a cloud service - if the service were to be hacked, you probably wouldn't like the results.

There is no silver bullet Ari. That much I've learned in my search for the best file hosting service. It all depends what you want and what you like.

From reading your question I am not exactly sure what you want. There are hosters that just do that (share files). There are others that provide a nice flash media player for your and your visitors to listen to your songs. Rapidshare is one (sorry can't remember more examples). No visitor sign up required that I know of.

I remember reading about a website that did what you ask (a hoster just for playing your personal mp3 collection) but then again my mind fails me. It's out there though!

If persistent storage not a requisite then check Opera's Unite feature. It allows you to host and share music and other files with anyone from within the browser. No signup required. If you are not one of those hardcore types that live and die by one browser, then by all means check it out. I've tried it myself and it works fine.

The best option is to have your own server or hosting service Tongue

More seriously, all the options listed here have their good and bad points. Perhaps the best (for me) would be Dropbox, but the free version has only 2 Gb of space, and that's not very much for hosting media files.

Well, the main feature I'm looking for is some service that'll allow me to hotlink directly to an uploaded file. In that respect, Dropbox sounds like it should cater to my needs. 2GB actually looks like it should be enough for my needs. At least for now.

Of course having your own server is the best option, but I'm looking for something free. Smiley

Thanks for the advice!
