Hey all.  Thought some of you might enjoy these recordings/remixes I've done messing around with my gear...  So I am posting them here.  I actually have a fair amount of recordings I've made over the years but for some reason never had the guts or something to just post them.  If you like any of them and want to hear some more things let me know!

Most of this stuff was made mainly using my XV-5080 and Fantom XR with some D-550 sprinkled in.

The 7th Guest - Theme SRX Draft
Sam & Max Hit the Road - Celebrity Vegetable Museum SRX Draft
Space Quest 1 - Rocket Bar SRX Draft
Blood - "A Bit of Blood SRX Draft" (don't know the real name of this one)
Hocus Pocus - Track 12 SRX

Peace!

Very nice work! I've listened to some of them (most, in fact), and all make use of a good selection of patches and a well-balanced mix. I've noticed, however, that you've got the tendency of using great amounts of reverb. At the end of the day it's a matter of personal taste, but I personally prefer less reverb, for a more "direct" and clean sound (I suppose that I'm influenced here by some of my favourite '70s recordings).

BTW, you've got an impressive amount of equipment! If I may, I'd suggest adding some Yamaha Motif synth there, as it's a very good complement to Roland's sounds (some kind of sounds are indeed clearly better). The best option would be a Motif Rack XS (not only for its sounds and effects, but also for its great software editor), but a Motif ES Rack or even a classic Motif Rack would be a great addition. Any of them is much better than a MU series synth (although they're not XG, GS or even GM2 compatible, but only GM).

Another quite striking point (for me) is the high quantity of "redundant" gear you own (such as sound canvases). Is it for collection purposes? Either if you use them for GM/GS compatibility purposes of for creating music, it would be enough with one (maybe two) of them... I just feel curious Tongue

Thanks.  I'm glad you enjoyed it.  I do tend to prefer more reverb.

As for my collection of Sound Canvas' and MT-32's.  You're right, it is that, a collection.  There are some interesting differences between some of them, notably the PMA-5, which has a mix of the SC-55 and SC-88 soundsets, and also some drum kits I have not heard anywhere else!  Also one of the MT-32's is the RWI modified one.  There should still be some posts about my RWI MT-32 on the forums here somewhere.  Also you can hear one of the PMA-5's unique drum kits on the Doom Remixes on my site in this post.

I do keep the 8820 in my laptop bag.  Smiley  With the BOSSMIDI Driver, VST MIDI Synth Driver (for Yamaha SYXG50 VST), MIDI Yoke, and MT-32 Emulator (App version) it's a great combo for on-the-go gaming!  (It took a bit of work to get it all running properly on Win7 64bit though.)

EDIT: I've thought about getting a Motif for a while.   Gotta save up a bit more first Smiley

The PMA-5 isn't just a regular SC-55?  It has some SC-88 sounds??  I have one in the shop and it's just become more interesting...   Tongue

Yeah!  It's got an interesting sort of mix halfway between SC-55 and SC-88.  It also has some drumkits that I have not heard on any other Sound Canvas.

You can check out the "Power 2" kit in some of these Doom Remixes I recorded a while ago.

You can see the full patch list and more in the manual from Roland's site.  Just scroll down to PMA-5.  (I'm not sure if their website likes a direct link or not.)
