Does anyone know of a Text-to-Speech app that I think came with some SB16 sound cards? I believe it's called either TextAssist or VoiceAssist. If so, where can I get d/l this program? THX!

Yeah, I remember it. It came with my SB AWE32. Didn't work all that well. I don't know where you could find it now, though. I'll take a look around the house and see if I can find my diskettes.

The app that came with the SB cards was indeed, Voice Assist, but there may have been others that worked with the SB.

Nope, this definitely isn't it. First off, I don't think it's even a TEXT-TO-SPEECH app, you know, a program where you can type in whatever and the computer can respond vocally at will. And secondly, I clearly remember that the TTS was a Windows program and not a DOS app.
I dunno about this, but maybe it will ring a bell to someone. Something else about the TTS is that i recall it being numerically advanced, when inputting dozens of digits it would utter unheard-of quantities. Like: five sep-tillion eight-hundred sex-tillion...If any of that makes sense, at all.

Sounds like Blabbermouth II in hyperstudio. We used to drive our teachers crazy by putting huge numbers into that program and letting it try and read them off.

Yes Textassist. I have it for you. Shall I mail it yo you? No thanks, UNLESS its part of the AWE64's driver for Windows 3.1. I found my original SB16 install disks, which has that program on it.

Ehm, what was the difference between the AWE64 and the AWE32 again? More memory?

It came bundled with a 32 voice softsynth, for a total 64 voices, hence the name AWE64 It may have had more memory onboard, or maybe that was only the AWE64 Gold. Also, the memory upgrades were proprietary instead of industry standard SIMMs. As far as drivers are concerned, anything that has AWE32 written on it should work fine.
