GENERAL DISCUSSION / Everything Sierra / Sierra Con in 2014
|
on: December 10, 2012, 06:23:50 AM

Not much is known about this initiative yet, but a few people want to arrange a get together for the Sierra fans sometime in 2014 called: Sierra Con ( http://www.thesierracon.com/) With adventure games being given a new start, I think this will be a great way to meet some people I've had the pleasure of talking to on forums or twitter (besides meeting Sierra online legends of course). Has anyone heard of it and what are your thoughts?

Hey gang...
Looks like the Cole's will need all the help they can get. Still 60,000 to go before they make their goal..
It's good to see adventure games arent dead. Looking forward to the renewal. Speaking of which, there is talk about a Sierra Con. Would be fun to meet people who have had Sierra games play such a big role in their lives.

Thanks for the tip jharris. I actually decided to buy the UM-1 Roland USB Midi interface and after some trouble (Windows 7 64bit didnt want to install the downloaded driver - but the driver that came with the CD worked) it's all working perfectly now. It definitely was a cable problem. I wonder what these cables would be good for if the Sysex information isn't 100% being transmitted correctly.
I am currious about this Windows XP mode app. I assume it's just a Virtual PC instance? I still like to see if I can get Tex Murphy Overseer to work on my new PC..

I bought this one. There are tons of those on Ebay. I'm afraid to try again if it's a luck of the draw. They arent expensive, but if it will take 5 tries to get a good one, I might as well invest in a more expensive one that I know will work guaranteed.

Might become worthwhile to create a thread with Midi 2 USB cables that are known to work. The USB midi cable I had sysex issues with was a Chinese "brandless" one. I believe that's the one I have. Just says USB to Midi and made in China on the box. It's sending a short pulse to the MT32 but that's it. I've read on Vogon's forum that some people had luck with that same cable.. I'm confused what's wrong with this one. I'll try the CPU speed settings but I'm using the latest DosBox version. Even tried the altered SVN version. No luck as of yet..

I'm open to try a different USB to Midi cable, I just want to make certain it will work before I spend around $30 for one (suggestions?).
Would a virtual machine with Windows XP handle this better you think? Never thought this would be such a hassle.

Sorry to bring up an old topic like this.. but it seems I have a problem with a midi cable I bought that Mau1wurf1977 mentioned he got from eBay. Mine looks exactly like that but after fiddling around with my Windows 7 64bit - I get music from my MT32, but it doesnt send the custom sysex banks in the beginning of the game. I've been reading things online now for the last few hours where people are complaining about the same thing. Some have said not every midi cable is the same midi cable. Can someone explain to me if I might have a bogus cable on my hands or if I'm doing something wrong? The MT32 unit is fine - I can use it without problems on my 486.

With your previous message, I thought this evening; why not remove ALL my drivers and reinstall using your AWE32 CD image. Look and behold - my drivers are up-to-date no errors with startup and all my games work again! Thank you SO much for finding and collecting these drivers! I'm going to burn a CD that I can keep around with my 486. Now I only need to find a lot of free time so I can start playing all my old DOS games again. Might need to look for another IDE harddrive for it
