1  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Roland MT-32 Sound Module / Re: MUNT back in active development on: March 22, 2013, 05:19:41 AM
I think eventually Munt will surpass the MT-32 in quality.
After they achieve 100% accuracy, they could use higher fidelity (more bits) than the original.
2  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Miscellaneous MIDI & Sound Cards / Willy Beamish CD-ROM MT-32 Support on: June 01, 2012, 05:46:10 AM
Sorry for this major bump.
NewRisingSun apparently wrote a patch to reintroduce mt-32 support for the cdrom version of Willy Beamish (back in 2006). However that patch that was supposedly linked from this thread is no longer available.
Does someone by any chance has it archived somewhere?

Thanks in advance.
3  GENERAL DISCUSSION / Sierra Soundtrack Wish List / Re: Can anyone identify this music? on: March 06, 2012, 04:02:11 PM
The same music was also used for the promotional video of the first MH game (MH:NY):
Manhunter - Promotional Movie (1988 Video Catalog)

Here's the video for the promo you supplied:
Manhunter San Francisco Promotional Movie

Where did you get your audio recording? It has higher quality than the youtube video.

Do you know if the Munt emulator is capable of producing more polyphony than was possible with a single unit?
5  GENERAL DISCUSSION / Everything Sierra / Re: Midi Support on Non-PC Platforms on: February 14, 2012, 04:27:17 PM
I managed to get working MT-32 music in Police Quest 3:
You'll need 2 files:
  • 1.PAT - a patch file for MT-32. This file is game specific, so you'll need to extract it from the PC version of PQ3. I use the excellent SCI Resource Viewer to do the extraction.
  • MT32.DRV - an MT-32 driver. I used the one from the amiga version of Space Quest 4.

This proves that the Amiga version contains the MT-32 soundtrack resources, but it was just not enabled when released.

So far I've only tested it in ScummVM, but I'm confident it'll work in a real Amiga and in WinUAE as well.

I believe this method will work for the rest of the SCI games as well - but I'll have to verify it.
6  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Roland MT-32 Sound Module / Re: MT-32 revision guide on: February 10, 2012, 12:39:29 PM
Hi,
I want to start a public repository for dumps of all known mt32/cm32l rom revisions.
Currently I host my limited collection via Google Docs, here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5j-_ZMS8_UoY2MxOWRmMzktZmZhOS00M2EwLWFkZGItODNmODY4ZjU5Y2Vi

I'd appreciate any help in obtaining more dumps.

Thanks!
7  GENERAL DISCUSSION / Everything Sierra / Re: Gabriel Knight : Sins of the Fathers Gabriel's Theme Similarity on: February 01, 2012, 07:02:02 PM
BTW - are you aware of the similarity between Police Quest 3's intro and the song "Downfall" by the metal band Children of Bodom?

It's rather obvious for anyone who played PQ3:
Children of Bodom - Downfall

Yeah - they are indeed quite similar!
Here's a link for the interested (it links to the point in the song you refer) :

You should check an updated build. The integrated Munt version that is used is near 100% accurate. There has been tremendous progress in the Munt project lately and they believe 100% accuracy is near.
10  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Roland MT-32 Sound Module / Re: Buying an MT-32 AC Adapter Replacement on: October 02, 2010, 05:48:29 PM
Thanks for all the tips - I'll update when I get my mt32 and pick an ac adapter.
11  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Roland MT-32 Sound Module / Re: Buying an MT-32 AC Adapter Replacement on: September 30, 2010, 09:07:44 AM
Thanks - However I forgot to mention I need a 220V model (I now fixed my question).
I failed to find a 220V Mega Drive adapter on eBay.
12  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Roland MT-32 Sound Module / Buying an MT-32 AC Adapter Replacement on: September 30, 2010, 08:24:11 AM
Hi,
I recently bought an MT-32 on eBay w/o an AC adapter.
Can you recommend me what adapter to buy and where to get one that is compatible with 220V current (preferably on eBay or DealExtreme)?
I know the specs of the original adapter are 9V, 1200ma, center negative.
13  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Roland MT-32 Sound Module / MIDI-USB Cables on: September 14, 2010, 04:22:04 PM
Hi,
I intend to buy an MT-32, and hook it to my Windows7 machine.
I understand that I'll need a MIDI-2-USB cable, but also that no 2 cables are alike.
I wish to buy a cable online from DealExtreme.com, and they carry a few models: http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.midi

Do you have recommendations? How can I make sure the one I pick will be compatible with my setup?
Thanks in advance,
   Omer Mor.

Just checked - and you are right.
I don't know how I missed that.

So only PQ3 remains patchless. I checked the german and spanish version of that game but none came with GM support.
15  GENERAL DISCUSSION / Sierra Classics Tech Help / Re: The Lost Synthesizer Patches - Courtesy of Anders M. Olsson on: July 16, 2009, 02:59:15 PM
Sorry, but I picked the wrong example:
I meant how can we get GM support for these games:
  Laura Bow 2
  PQ1 Remake
  PQ3
  QfG1 Remake

GM patches for those are not to found. However if the lost package of D110 patches would surface someday - I guess a GM patch could be made for them.

This is indeed the document I was referring to.
However I did not understand what you meant by "the Roland bank can be used".
How can I use GM with Conquest of the Longbow for example?
Perhaps I'm missing on this "Roland bank".

Those games didn't come out with a general midi driver/support.
The GM support was also added in a post-market fashion, but only to a subset of the games:
   {EcoQuest 1, Hoyle 3, LSL1 Remake, LSL5, Conquest of the Longbow, SQ1 Remake, SQ4, Mixed Up Fairy Tales}

Those GM patches and driver can be easily found on most sierra fan sites.
However the patches for the other games (Laura Bow 2, PQ1 Remake, PQ3, QfG1 Remake) are missing.

Asking Mark Seibert is a great idea. Please post his reply here (if one is given).

18  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Roland MT-32 Sound Module / Re: Was 8 channels enough? on: July 12, 2009, 04:54:51 PM
I have since found that it's GENMIDI.DRV that ignores non-GM commands. I have since written a custom one that passes on the drum set changes in Space Quest V.

NewRisingSun: Is there a chance you'll be releasing this custom general midi driver?

Thanks in advance,
  Omer Mor.

Sierra released post market D-110 support for several games that are not included here. I have never been able to find those:
  • ECO1D110.PAT   EcoQuest 1
  • HOY3D110.PAT   Hoyle 3
  • LB2_D110.PAT   Laura Bow II: The Dagger of Amon Ra
  • LL1_D110.PAT   Leisure Suit Larry 1 (Enhanced Version)
  • LL5_D110.PAT   Leisure Suit Larry 5
  • PQ1_D110.PAT   Police Quest 1 (Enhanced Version)
  • PQ3_D110.PAT   Police Quest 3
  • QG1_D110.PAT   Quest for Glory 1 (Enhanced Version)
  • ROBND110.PAT   Robin Hood: Conquest of the Longbow
  • SQ1_D110.PAT   Space Quest 1 (Enhanced Version)
  • SQ4_D110.PAT   Space Quest 4
  • TALED110.PAT   Mixed Up Fairy Tales

Maybe someone here has them?

20  GENERAL DISCUSSION / Sierra Classics Tech Help / Re: SCI0 Driver Notes on: July 12, 2009, 03:09:06 PM
NewRisingSun:
1. What about the KQ4 patch that adds the AMIGA environmental sounds?
2. Is it possible to write SCI driver for the CGA Composite mode that will use 16 colors? (It is kind of absurd that KQ4 AGI looks much better than KQ4 SCI on a CGA).
