1  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Roland MT-32 Sound Module / just got an mt32, can't get it to work on: June 28, 2006, 11:59:47 AM
When you select the roland mpu401 out driver as your midi output, does your scc-1's internal sound generator at least play the notes?

I can't say for sure since I have no access to the 8820 and 8850 modules. But, I believe the sysex commands should work for these modules, since the internal tone generator of the D70 is the same as that of the 8820.

Just got a used Roland SC-D70 at a very good bargain. It is a fine unit and all, but unfortunately, there isn't any way to change the soundmaps via hardware (like in the case of the 8820 and 8850).

So, I wrote a utility program in Java that sends the sysex messages to perform the sound map change with ease . You can get it  here . Its very easy to use. Simply select the midi output device, the respective sound map and click on the change button.

This program however, requires the java runtime environment which can be downloaded here

QFG1 was never remade by AGD, since it was already remade in VGA by Sierra over a decade ago.

2. Emulator has no cracks too.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the emulator at its current stage crackles more than the MT-32;)
7  MUSIC & SOUND CARDS / Roland MT-32 Sound Module / MT-32 emulator claims on: June 26, 2004, 04:38:24 AM
I've tried the emulator . It DOES understand mt-32 sysx and can playback the custom instruments, but unfortunately the instruments sound way out of balance and is a real CPU hogger.  I guess more work is required, but at least the emulation seems to be headed in the right direction.

Connection interupted again it seems...
Does your ftp client give you the option to resume when you upload? If not, try cuteftp, as I've just tested it and it supports resuming.

Hmm. It was already enabled, but maybe the file was locked by the system. Anyway I gave my system a fresh reboot. Perhaps, you can try now.. I'll be at queststudios irc channel, if u still encounter problems.
Sorry for the hassle.

I have the file, but i think its not complete. Its 302 meg in size and cannot be extracted. Would it be possible for you to resume upload? I believe my ftp software supports resume.

218.186.36.99 port 21

I'm not sure if it'll work, cause i'm also using a router, but I have made the necessary changes in the settings. Anyway i'll be at the queststudios irc channel, should you encounter any problems. Thanks again

Thanks , but I can't think of any ftp sites, that lets you upload 650 meg . Maybe, I can try setting up my own ftp server on my comp, to where you can upload. I don't think DCCing via icq or mirc will work unless you open up some ports in your router settings.

I wish I had version 2. A multiple save feature(makes the music a whole lot easier to record) and a dos version is definately welcome.
15  GENERAL DISCUSSION / Sierra Soundtrack Wish List / Soundtracks for KQ 7 and 8 on: December 19, 2003, 11:59:00 AM
In addition to the lack of a good save feature, the first version had alot of nasty bugs and lockups and I remember it lagging pretty badly during certain sequences, back in 94 when I was still using a 486.It seemed Sierra spent very little time beta testing this game in order to meet an early release date.

I gave a short on recording the kq7 soundtrack and have recorded about 12 midi tracks from, mainly screen based sequences.

The event based sequences are a little tricky to record , for the game only lets you resume from the point you last played and does not let you restore to an earlier scene. But I might work on them later when I have chance.

17  GENERAL COMPUTER DISCUSSION / Non-Sierra Related Comments / Maniac Mansion Deluxe on: May 29, 2004, 01:49:00 AM
I don't think he's denying the use of ripped graphics. I believe part of LucasFan's reason for releasing this remake is to show people how 'easy' it is to use the original backgrounds from other games and replace it with a vga overlay. He went as far as releasing a KQ3VGA demo to prove his point. He even posted a step by step instruction , complete with screenshots on the Tierra forum, but he was banned and his shots removed because he had included a 'breast' icon in them. Obviously, this guy is jealous of Tierra's success.

The creator of this deluxe remake, LucasFan, is against Tierra and their remakes for some reason. He maintains that Tierra games aren't that great and that they primarily use graphics and sprites ripped from Sierra games. This guy created quite a stir in the Tierra forums by posting screenshots that condemm their work. I never got to see the screenshots , since they have been removed, but the forum moderator claims that they contain somewhat offensive materials. LucasFan has since been banned from the forum.
