Good evening,

I'm running Space Quest 2 successfully under DOSBox (for some reason I can't make it work in a Win2K shell + VDMS), but all I get is the beeper sound. I believe AGI games could support 3-voice Tandy audio, but without any setup program my guess is that it requires a specific command line option which I'm not aware of. Could someone enlighten me? (Tandy support is activated in my DOSBox.conf file btw.)

What version of DOSBox are you using?  I've never fiddled around much with the 3-voice PCjr/Tandy support but the couple times I did try it (with Sierra's The Black Cauldron), I noticed that although support seemed to be listed for both versions 0.60 and 0.61 (I have both currently installed since 0.61 introduces a couple new graphics glitches not present in 0.60), I was only able to get the 3-voice to work in 0.61.  I'd assume this is also the version you're using, since it's the latest, but if it's not then it's definitely worth trying in addition to the version you have installed.  Oh, and at least in my case, version 0.61 seemed to detect and invoke the 3-voice audio for the game automatically without any command line option so long as support was enabled in the configuration file.

That's interesting. I'm using the latest CVS available at MyPixels, and despite Tandy being enabled, I automatically get beeper sound. I tried Black Cauldron from Al Lowe's website, and I got the same thing. I'll go back to 0.61 and give it a try :?

By gum, you're right. DOSBox 0.61 automatically chooses Tandy audio in those two games. Space Quest 2 runs like a charm, but Black Cauldron's sprites are seriously garbled when they move around. Time for a bug report :o)

Thank you for your help!

Actually, it still works with the latest CVS, providing that we set the machine=tandy option. machine=auto from 0.61 doesn't seem to work, or isn't supported anymore -- the guys in the know are not sure.
