Every few weeks, I'll get a letter from someone asking for Sierra game support...usually written as though I'm with Sierra Tech Support.  This one cracks me up...  I know it's a come-on, but if not, it's still funny.

I just purchased a Sierra Holye Card Games, 18 Classic Games. PC CD-ROM SOFTWARE Program. However, I can not install it unless I have HAND HELD DEVICE properly installed. WHAT is this "handheld device"HuhHuh  I am not at all happy with this program. If I needed a HANDHELD DEVICE, Why was that STATED on the box the CD was enclosed in. I suggest you call me at 770-645-8597 with an explanation.

Are those letters coming from just one guy? Perhaps a simple reply from you stating that you have nothing to do with Sierra will silence him. Otherwise, it probably is just a prank, Tom.

Oh boy... that is hilarious.  Yeah that is definitely a "come-on!" type.

Although they should maybe take into consideration that some people are clueless when it comes to computers, and might not be able to figure out "Hand Held Device".... hmm, what computer device do I hold in my hand?

Probably the last problem he had was called into his computer manufacturer's tech support, and went something like this:

"My computer doesn't work!"

"What is the problem?"

"When I press the power button, nothing happens!"

"It IS plugged in, correct sir?"

"What?  You have to plug this thing in?"

It didn't say you have to plug it in on the box!

No, I get letters from all different people, whom I refer to Sierra.  This one, sounds tooooo stupid to be real, though.

No way! This one is LEGIT. I've been actively involved in solving Sierra tech. support queries, especially in the Space Quest area (though I'm pretty knowledgeable across the board) for years!
This one's a bit too painful to be funny. But please, post 'em all. Smiley

I get dumb queries all the time. Like the guy who couldn't install SQ on XP. Not because of any timer/game issues, or anything, but because he didn't have admin rights on his computer! Sigh. But there's a million where that came from..
I'll post an example if I can ever be bothered. Tongue

I guess this forum is different because there's *very little* tech support queries made. Most Sierra forums have a million a day. Tongue (I love this place!)

I work in tech support, and quite often the incoming calls (or e-mails) have nothing to do with our product.  They are often general computer questions.

We usually respond to them anyway just keep our service level top-notch, but some of the questions are ridiculous.  We quite often get the ones where either the power has not been turned on, or, something is unplugged.  Then you get the ones where someone is trying to jam a 3.5 inch disk into a 5.25 inch drive - or even better, 5.25 disk into a 3.5 drive.  Or, "Can my CD-ROM read floppy disks?"

One of the best I heard was someone's monitor was "not working".  So we confirmed yes, it is indeed plugged in.  Yes, the power button has been pressed, and the little green power light is there.  Then next was to see if the processor was powered on, and all the other normal trouble-shooting.

Finally, it turned out someone had turned the contrast and brightness all the way down.  It was an older monitor where there were actually knobs at the bottom of the monitor, no on-screen displays.  So yep, as soon as the brightness and contrast were turned up, like magic, they could see again!  So that wasn't a case of the person being totally clueless, it was a little more of a mystery.  I guess someone must have been playing a joke on them.

I thought the board could use a little life since everyone is too busy to post.

I found this video about a couple years ago, and, while a little outdated, should be at least a little funny to computer veterans.

Hope you have a laugh in an otherwise dull day.
