Hi. I've been a lurker on this board for awhile, but I've finally decided to be much more vocal. I finally signed up for an actual account. Wooo. (I feel like such a newb.)

I just wanted to say "hey" and introduce myself.

While I am here, allow me to plug my website http://www.dracowulf.com. I'm working on my own personal games DB. It's still rough, but I plan to add more.

laxdragon makes the 73'rd new member to join this forum since changing to the phpBB board last June 17...six months ago.   (That's why there was cake and ice cream in the lobby.)  Still amazes me the amount of traffic this site receives for a piddly, home-grown hobby, nothing site.

Too modest as always, that man.

And welcome to laxdragon, the 'newbie'. Smiley

I had been hanging around here off and on, downloading some of the digital audio for a couple of years before I decided to take a look around the Message Board.  Before that, I was pretty much clueless on all the different midi devices, and I had no idea an audio file type of "ogg" even existed.  The information on the main site is helpful and informative, and it's explained in a way pretty much anyone can understand.  On the message board, the contributions everyone makes is great, tons of info built up over the years.  Here's an example:  Just a couple of weeks ago, I had no idea you could convert midi files to wav format with Winamp... something I had been trying to figure out how to do for a while now:

http://www.queststudios.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=957

I never would have figured that out on my own.  I had been searching all over, and finally said, hey, I can probably get help on here, if the answer isn't already posted... and there it is.

Then of course, there is the main attraction for many people, which is all the great music on here... which we can all download for free!

So I do agree, way too modest.  This is an awesome site.   :smt023

GhostRider, I can relate. I've been visiting QuestStudios since 2000, but I focused primarily (okay, only) on downloading Tom's great MP3s (and later, OGGs Smiley ). Then I started checking out the message board and finally started posting and although I'm not the most active member, it's always nice to be a part of the Sierra music community Smiley.

Oh, and welcome to the board, laxdragon!  Cool

Got my mt-32 on friday via e-bay. Works great! Been playing various Space Quest games on it via DOSbox all weekend. I think you can thank DOSbox (and to some point ScummVM) for the renewed interest in the classics. I forget how much I miss adventure games, or games with comedy for that matter.

One thing, my Willy Beamish CD does not have a mt-32 driver. Was there a version of Willy that did? I didn't see much posted about it.

It's been too long... I haven't posted on this board for absolutely ages. Nobody will remember me haha. ;-)

And probably rightly so. Tongue

Of course we remember you Blanka. If I do remember correctly you even sent me a copy of a CD that got broken on my end..

To get back to your MT32 question laxdragon, I think if you copy the MT32 driver from another Dynamix game, you should be able to get MT32 support. Those drivers are inter-exchangable I believe.

As I said in Laxdragon's *separate* thread he made..

"Copying the MT32.DRV shouldn't work, as there.. isn't one. Dynamix games DO NOT have separate drivers, they're all bundled into the resources.

If you copy a MT32 driver from another game, nothing will happen.

There might be a way, I've often pondered over how to solve this dilemma. Just not my field of expertise, coding and drivers. "

Ahh sorry about that.. My bad.. Dont have that much experience with Dynamix Games. Thought that after Sierra had taken over Dynamix they would have take the drivers out of big files like that to make it more flexible.

Willy Beamish did have MT32 support right?

Right, apparently only on the floppy disk version. The CD version had it removed for some unknown reason. Looks like I'm stuck with FM synth there. Bummer.  :?

My guess would be, the CD release was a bastardised version of the SEGA CD release. Like, the SEGA consoles couldn't handle MT-32 MIDI, so they got rid of the support, and never brought it back for the PC CD release.

There's digital redbook audio as well, on the CD. But only FM Synth available for MIDI..
