Hey everybody,

Just thought I'd announce this here- no links howeve, under QuestStudios policy (which I have no problem with, by the way) I cannot. Just check my profile, there's a link to my site there, if you're not acquainted with it.

Finally, a CD release from me. And about time too. Hopefully everyone that cares about Sierra music, or GK music at the very least, will give the CD a listen. I'd certainly appreciate it.

Regards,

Hey Alistair, I just tried to go to that URL from your profile, but I received a "page cannot be displayed" message?  I'll try again in a little while.  I would like to listen to this.   Cool

I've downloaded and listened to the soundtrack.
GK1 is one of my absolute favorites and I compared your result with the CD I burned a couple of years ago based on Tom's midi soundtrack.

This is what I think:

- The quality of your tracks are very good. Good job on that.

- I find most of the tracks are too short (all are between 1 and two minutes of music). I think several tracks deserve to go on a bit longer, like in Tom's midi files. I know you tried to match it so it'll all fit onto one cd but still.

- Some tracks IMHO do not deserve to be on the cd honestly. I know we've had that discussion before but track like the Rada drummer or the snake attack do not contain enough music to be put on a cd. Some others are only repetitions of other tracks.

Anyway, just my two cents

I have downloaded GK soundtrack, Alistair, and I have to say I really liked it. Sound is rich and enjoyable.
I usually do not record soundtracks on audio cd, so (for me) it is not so important that even the shortest and uncommon pieces are in the track list.
Very good job, I appreciate it.

Uchenzei,

Thanks very much for your comments, rest assured they're appreciated.

There's only 2 pieces (which Ivar mentioned) that are contentious in terms of being on the CD or not (for my money); I have distinct memories of both of them from the game, especially the Drummer. If you don't want them on your audio CD; don't burn them. But I wouldn't call them surplus pieces, and they're certainly not SFX tracks or anything like that. They're part of the game and the score- with this CD I tried to incorporate as much of the game as possible.

May as well reply to Ivar here:

I find this very hard to comprehend.. firstly, I assume you're referring to Tom's GK1GM.MID (and not his GK page MIDI files). And then.. most of my tracks are exactly the same length as his. In fact, I'd say 90% of them would be. You'll find I probably got a lot of inspiration from his MIDI soundtrack (as I think it was you, Ivar, who recorded them as MP3 files and uploaded them- that was my old GK1CD. But not good enough for me, just GM!).
So, I find that comment very hard to interpret. Basically, what you said isn't true, because most of my tracks take leads from Tom's MIDI's and start and end in similar places.
Care to clarify? (I can think of tracks that go longer than the MIDIs core versions, even..)

Some others are only repetitions of other tracks

Where's the repetitions? The rada drum piece is repeated, that's one, and that was delibarate, as was Wolfgang's theme in the 'Final Ritual'. I don't like cutting music out from an essential point of the game (much prefer how I did it than it was done in the GK1 MIDI score, where a short version of the rada drums is followed straight by the fall of the house of Gedde), and besides I've enhanced them differently.

For my money, my CD is definitely better than Tom's MIDI soundtrack. There were a few misnomas in the MIDI score, like MT-32 version MIDI files ending up in the GM soundtrack (Crash Interrogation, Madame Lorelai for example) and other little things. But it's a very good MIDI score by Tom. And my CD is basically his MIDI score taken a step further (though I didn't use it, or even look at it, all my own editing and enhancements in THIS score- will use some of Tom's files in other CD's though) and that's why I like what I've done with the score.

Nevertheless, I appreciate negative feedback, it's useful and helps you learn. I definitely understand where you're coming from, mainly. However some comments don't make sense, hopefully you'll clear things up. Smiley
