The King's Quest V digital soundtrack is now available for download...

http://www.QuestStudios.com/quest/kq5cd/kq5cd.html

There are currently a couple of duplicate themes around the 'Dark Forrest' and 'Witch' tracks -- as MusicallyInspired helped (Much Appreciated, MI!) with this portion and I haven't yet updated the other tracks.  For the most part, this is based on the original game's MT-32 soundtrack with minimal SC-8820 accompaniment.  The 'Closing Themes' track is totally MT-32, but most of the themes heard in the Closing are also presented as individual SC-enhanced tracks, earlier in the game.

Thanks, Tom! Just finished downloading 'em, and it sounds great! I wanted to leave this note saying that I'm REALLY appreciating this spate of digital soundtracks, not only for the sheer volume (oops, bad word in context - think number) of songs, but also due to the fact that I have never been able to make my computer play MP3s at all admirably. So THANK YOU, and keep up the good work!

You bet.  With KQ5 now out of the way, I only have .... ummm .... a lot more .... to go until I reach my goal of recording all of the Sierra soundtracks, digitally.   KQ5 should have been one of the first soundtracks to be recorded -- I've had so many requests for it over the years.  I put it off because I never really cared for the game all that much -- and the music is a reminder of that. Smiley   But I enjoyed hearing the soundtrack again.

Your most welcome, and thank you!  I benefit from them, too, as it's been giving me a lot of new CD's to listen to on my long drive to work!  So my motives aren't entirely selfless.  Smiley

KQ5 was one of my favourite games and is my favourite soundtrack. I'm glad Tom got around to completing it! Excellent work! Can't wait for the other soundtracks you will be releasing.

Same deal as QFG3 (and QFG4 too) - too much music for one audio CD, so you'll need to make it two.  Some games just have a great deal of music.

I just mentioned this in my QFG3 post, but if you really just want the one audio CD, you'll need to choose the tracks you like best only and cut them down to 80 minutes total or less (or 74 depending on your CD burner software).  If you like all the music and want it all on audio CD, it will have to be two discs.

What he said...

Some game soundtacks don't fill a 74 or 80-minute CD, so you can combine tracks from other games, if you wish.  And, some won't fit on a single CD, so you'll have to do some of your own arranging.  When Sierra composed their game soundtracks, I doubt they ever envisioned them ending up on audio CD's.  Smiley

There's a good 15 minutes of music absent in the QuestStudios CD, so that in part explains why it's so short. KQ5 has a pretty long score.
Probably a good time for me to nudge Tom on the subject. Smiley

Don't nudge, provide references to exactly what is missing Smiley  Remember that if you have 15 minutes of themes less than 30 seconds, Tom probably left those out on purpose... though as I've suggested before, I think it seems reasonable to put everything online because people can pick and choose whether they want those tracks on their own CDs.

I already did so in another thread (Soundtrack Wish List forum). I think Tom's going to tackle it after Himalaya commitments and then the 2 Conquests games, but I'd prefer to see these last few KQ5 pieces recorded more to be honest.

He didn't leave them out on purpose (I'm only referring to proper tracks, although there's a couple of short ones also!). Well, some he did. Others I think he just missed. 'The Harpies' and 'Bandit Tent' are good examples, as is the long 'Closing Sequence', although that's hard to record.

My nudging was more to try and persuade Tom, as he's said he has higher musical priorities. I'd much prefer to see the few KQ5 tracks done than the Conquests CD's, although I can't wait for those believe me.

But I agree, put everything (so long as its' musical, well, even the Machine in KQ5 should be there- awesome SFX!) online. I don't enjoy CD's that are brilliant but miss some tracks. It is a shame when Tom does such great work. And I really liked his work on this CD! Smiley

wouldn't the "KQ5 - Closing Sequence" available from Mark Seibert's website make for a fine addition to Tom's Soundtrack instead?

It's already on the site. It's track 7 from the Sierra Soundtrack CD.
I really wish Mark Seibert would post the Sierra Soundtrack CD vol. 2 on his site. It had the two tracks from Phanta1 he's already posted, 3 from Phantas2 and a bunch of other games from that period, including the main theme from LSL7. Jouke who worked in the Sierra Online site ages ago got a copy from Mark, I think, but he never uploaded the entire CD so I wasn't able to grab it. Sad

Perhaps I've missed something, but I wasn't aware that there was a Sierra Sountrack CD Vol. 2. Which tracks from the Phantasmagoria series are included?

Well, from what I understand it was never released. It never went past the planning stage.
There were two tracks from Phantasmagoria 1, Consumite Furore and Take a Stand. Both available on Mark Seibert's site. The next 3 were from Phantasmagoria 2, Hecatomb, Opening Sequence and the song Rage.

Sure, Ari, that's what I'm doing already- what's your point? Smiley

There's still other tunes. And it's nicer for continuity to have Tom's versions. To be honest, for the most part I prefer what Tom's Roland synths can do vs. Mark Seibert's Roland JUNO and a real sax player. I love 'enhancements', as in mixed Roland/XG tracks with little add-ons. That's why Tom is king, he does it so darned well. I'm just wanting a full KQ5 job so I can burn it already.
