hey everyone, i recently downloaded the incredible soundtrack for KQ6 and i have just one question. i remember playing the multimedia version and that prologue section with the dialogue and everything was lovely. i was wondering if anyone has an mp3 of the opening with the dialogue aswell as the music? the soundtrack only has the music (which i know makes sence, seing as it is the soundtrack.)

if not, then thats fine.

thanks in advance.

I've never recorded the dialog, but I would like to point out that there's also a CD version MIDI of the opeining which is over 10 minutes long.
Just in case you missed it.

<laughes at Ari> Priceless.

What I would recommend, Disco-man, would be to get the AVI file from KQ6, and play it in WinAmp, while using a recording program tor ecord it yourself. Assuming there's digital music that plays as well.. I think there was. Maybe just digital SC-55 as they did in other games at the time.

If you use VirtualDubMod you can strip the audio directly and get even better quality than by recording it.

You strip the audio by opening the AVI file in VDM and click Streams-Stream list. You should see one stream in the list, the audio stream, so click Demux to save the audio as a separate file (it'll most likely be a WAV-file) and you're done!

In response to Ari; just your plug for your KQ6CD intro MIDI..

And thankyou very much to Zemus! Highly useful. What about for VESA games? Ia ssume I'll have to use my method..

You can also use TMPGEnc to demux the streams, saving them to virtually any format you wish.

What's a "VESA" game?

Yes, maybe Isrealites have no 'sensahuma', as Punny Bones would say. Cheesy

And Tom- a VESA game is any of Sierra's games around 1994/5, like King's Quest 7, Space Quest 6, which used VESA resolution graphics, as opposed to 'straight-laced VGA'. If you press windows, or alt-tab, in a VESA game (in the DOS versions), you can't go back to it, it'll shut down. Those games don't have AVI sequences- which is why I want to know how to get the digital audio for some of those sequences. Smiley Otherwise I'll jsut have to record in-game.. which is fine, but if there's a better way..

I thought GAP could pull the audio from those later games.

I would think GAP should work just as well, too.

GAP's sadly fairly useless (in this case- great utility), because in any given later (VESA, or 'SCI32' if you prefer, though they're not always the same) Sierra game, such as SQ6, there's a LOT of audio. You don't get a playlist with every file, rather you get every Gary Owens' line (for example) in this massive output file. So that's not nearly as useful or easy as straight recording.
