I wonder if anyone can help me with a little dilemma. I want to try to compose music with both my MT-32 and my MT-200 (SC-55 GS sounds). I'll be using the MT-32 only for extra sounds such as Soundtrack and such since they sound better on the MT-32. Is it possible to use the MIDI Thru socket to send a specific channel or channels from the MT-200 to the MT-32 for instruments instead of the MT-200? I've tried experimenting with putting a midi cable from the MIDI Thru socket on my MT-200 to the MT-32 MIDI In socket but so far I can't get anything coming out of my MT-32. I've tried switching the channel mapping from 2-9 to 1-8 and still nothing.
Is what I'm suggesting even possible?

Well, what I do (or used to do, rather) with my setup is plug MIDI Out from my PC into my MT-32's MIDI In, and then route MIDI Thru from the MT-32 to the SC-55's MIDI In.

Is it possible to use the MIDI Thru socket to send a specific channel or channels from the MT-200 to the MT-32 for instruments instead of the MT-200? I don't see how you can do that except by muting the desired channel on your MT-200 so that it's only heard on the MT-32. I presently do a similar thing with a Sound Canvas and MT-32. The MIDI OUT of my SC goes to the MIDI IN of my MT-32. I then send SysEx to turn off the SC's Channel 2 so that the data playing on Channel 2 is only heard on the MT-32. I do it for the same reason you want to ... so I can use select MT-32 sounds (like, Soundtrack) without the SC interfering. I typically do this with 4 or 5 SC channels, and also move the SC's percussion channel to 11...so as not to interfere with the MT-32's percussion channel. The only thing is, I know the SysEx for silencing MIDI channels on my Sound Canvas, but haven't a clue what it would be for the MT-200. :?

I wonder if I can even send SysEx messages to my MT-200. I'll have to have a deeper look. Thanks, guys.

I think I'm now without an MT-200. I've always had trouble with the adapter socket on the MT-200. You'd have to wiggle it around and put it in just the right spot for it to turn on. Sometimes it would turn off when you're in the middle of something because the adapter cord would move or go out of place. I was trying to get it turned on. I went through the usual wiggling and it flickering on and off and then it turned off and I haven't been able to get it working since. It's pretty old, I'm surprised I've been using it as long as I have. But sadly, this means I'm without a MIDI module other than the MT-32, which is, while being excellent, just not enough for what I'm working on (game soundtrack + personal agendas). This is a sad day for me. And if I had the money I'd buy another one on ebay, but sadly at the moment I'm in debt and broke. Anyone willing to donate an SC-55? lol. ...oh well.

Bummer!
Adapter socket? What does that mean. Is it a specific device used on the MT-200?
And, yes, I'd be willing to loan you a SCB-55 (daughtercard) or the CM-500 (which is the SC-55 and LAPC), and/or Yamaha SW60XG (ISA card) if you need something so you can continue work on your projects. I won't need that Yamaha card for the forseeable future, and it does have a lot of nice sounds (671). The only drawback, it's an ISA card, so you need an older PC for it.

Brandon,
Your MT-200 can probably be repaired fairly easily; it sounds like it may just need a new power jack.
I'm probably not the closest to where you are located, but if you want to send me the MT-200, I can order the part from Roland and repair it for you.

Wow, I didn't actually expect an offer. I'll just email you about it.
And by adapter socket I mean the place where you plug the adapter into on the MT-200.
EDIT: To Cloudschatze: didn't see your post until after. Where do you live? And how long would it take?

To Cloudschatze: didn't see your post until after. Where do you live? And how long would it take? Washington, across from Seattle. With shipping, the turnaround could be 2-3 weeks.

Ok, dude, send me your postage info by email if you want (shine64 at rocketmail.com)and I'll get it sent to you as soon as I can. Thanks so much for doing this for me. It means a lot. I'll send the adapter along with it so you can test it.
