When the CM-64 is in overflow mode using Cloudschatze's sysex that modifies the field that I discovered, it erroneously sends 8x-form "Note Off" messages as "Note On" to the second module if the velocity is not zero. The solution is to make sure that 8x-form "Note Off" messages always have zero velocity.

Hmm. Is this an example of the bug fixed in the 2.07 MT-32 ROM?

"When an MT-32 receives "8x kk vv" (Note Off) in overflow assign mode, the MT-32 wrongly transmits "9x kk vv" (Note On) instead of "8x kk vv" (Note Off)."

By the way, try using a 02 in the "Overflow SysEx" string. In what type of situation might the resulting behavior be useful.  Huh

That's precisely it. What's the date of the 2.07 ROM? Maybe I should rewire to check whether it's fixed in the CM-500.

What is the resulting behavior? I don't hear any difference to using 00.

Only SysEx is passed to the MIDI-Out port, and nothing else.

What samples should I use to record?

I have my old, 'original' MT-32, and the 'newtype' one Cloud sent me. I'm happy to record samples if someone can predetermine which samples to record.

They definitely sound different in some cases though, from experience already. Listening to natural instruments (bass, guitars, drums) sounds much better (cleaner?) on the new MT-32.

Hi,
I want to start a public repository for dumps of all known mt32/cm32l rom revisions.
Currently I host my limited collection via Google Docs, here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5j-_ZMS8_UoY2MxOWRmMzktZmZhOS00M2EwLWFkZGItODNmODY4ZjU5Y2Vi

I'd appreciate any help in obtaining more dumps.

Thanks!

I own several of these modules, but unfortunately, I wouldn't know how to dump anything...
