Is there a version of the first four QFG Soundtracks that can be burned to a CD?  The MIDI files don't do that...

Also, does it have seperate songs, instead of everything in one big file?

Have you tried the main page in the digital audio index?

OGG files don't work on my computer, they don't copy to CDs, either.

You can download an OGG codec here

that should enable you to play OGG files with Windows Media Player, which can also burn CDs.'

There may be other options as well, but none that I'm aware of at the moment.

Thank you, the music works on my computer, but I can't burn them to a CD...I could give you a picture of the error, if you want to see it.

WinAMP will play .ogg files without having to install any codecs.

By selecting the Disk Writer plug-in (Ctrl-P then pick Plug-ins / Output, Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in 2.11 [out_disk.dll]) you can convert all of the .ogg files to .wav files very quickly and simply.

After that, you should be able to make CDs from the uncompressed .wav files.

Good luck!

So far so good, the files converted to .WAVs, and they can be read by my computer.  Thanks!   Cheesy

However, all I have to burn them to are DVD-RWs...I have a DVD Writer, but it isn't working.  Is there a way to get .WAV files onto DVD-RWs?

There are multiple CD formats, and multiple DVD formats... but the formats for CDs are not the same as for DVDs.  It really depends on what you want to accomplish.  Here are some ideas.

CD-Rs are pretty cheap... you could buy some of those and you can encode up to 80 minutes of audio on each, which can then be played in any standard CD player.

DVD-Rs and -RWs are more expensive and cannot be played in a standard CD player.  However, they can hold more data.  If you want to play your songs on a DVD player just like you would play a movie, as far as I know you'll need some sort of software package to assemble a "program" for your DVD to play the audio in chapters, just like movie discs.  This is an area I've never done before, so someone else would need to guide you, or you can probably find the information with a careful Google search.  Maybe Nero or Easy CD/DVD Creator (I'll mention those again in a bit) have some capabilities, but I would expect even those programs to be very limited.

If you only want to play songs on your computer or another, then you have a few options there too.  Obviously if you put the songs onto a DVD-RW, only a computer with a DVD player/reader can access the disc.  If you are putting songs onto a data disc, there's little reason to use uncompressed WAV files.  You can either write the .ogg files directly to disc as data, and any computer with WinAMP or with the ogg plugin for Windows Media Player can then play the music.  If you want to use this disc on other computers that may not have WinAMP or Ogg support installed, you might instead want to use an mp3 encoder and save the songs in .mp3 format (as it's the most universally supported).  There are even some DVD players that will play computer-made DVD data discs and support playing mp3s... but don't count on every DVD player being able to do this.

You can pack many, many hours of audio onto a single DVD if it's in a data format using compressed audio files such as ogg or mp3s.  Even on a regular CD, in data format you can fit as much as six hours of compressed audio (as opposed to the 70-80 minutes of uncompressed).  DVDs can hold 8 times as much as CDs, so you can put two days' worth of audio onto a DVD.  (And that's just talking single-layer DVDs.  Dual-layer DVDs are double that.)

I recommend against using Windows' built-in media burning capabilities - I imagine that's what you're trying to use now, and just dragging files over to the DVD drive or using Windows Media Player to try to make a DVD is going to be very painful and inefficient.  If you have a burner on your system, hopefully it came with a program such as Nero or Easy CD/DVD Creator.  Those programs will make it much easier to do what you want, and they have "wizards" to guide you through the process.

Hopefully this is enough information that we're past the point of making it "dangerous" and you can safely and happily accomplish your goals!

 I have 5:30:10 of QFG music to copy to CDs...I'll try to CD-Rs, it makes the most sense that it would work best there.

Thanks for the help.   Cheesy
