It refuses to work w/ my SB16 CT1740 in MS-DOS6.22/Win98se

I know the SCB-55 works cause I tested it on a PCI card that happens to have a waveblaster header.

I've tried pretty much everything. All kinds of jumper settings, drivers out the wazoo, still.. nothing but silence.  I've got a packard bell Multimedia R515 box that has onboard sound, but it's disabled.

What the heck? Any pointers?

Assuming that you have all the right drivers installed, I'd say that your SB16 is possibly defective. You have no choice but to attach your SCB-55 to another host card.

I've tried installing it in Win98se and changing the MIDI mapping, that = no go.

I've tried installing it with plain MS-DOS 6.22 with all kinds of SB16 Midi stuff, and even w/o any drivers.  Still, no sound in Doom

I went out on ebay and bought another SB16 to replace my CT1740, but ironically it was just another CT1740 Sad  And still no luck.

Do you know how an SCB-55 sounds? When you attached it to the PCI sound card via the wavetable header, are you 100% sure that the MIDI sound you heard were from the SCB-55 and not the on-board MIDI of the PCI card?

Yup... I dl'd the SC-55 version of the allstairs track (in MP3) format (http://www.queststudios.com/quest/midi/midicompare.html), and also in Midi format, so I've been playing the midi as a tester to see if the SCB-55 works.

The PCI card can support Microsoft GS synth, but of course, that sounds completely different than the SCB-55.

I select something like "ICE External Midi"

1) W/ the SCB-55 off the PCI card and ICE selected, I get no music
2) W/ the SCB-55 ON the PCI card and ICE selected, I get music that sounds like the SC-55 mp3 (when playing the .mid of course) Cheesy

Ok, at least you're now sure that your SCB-55 is not the culprit. It seems that for some strange reason, your Roland doesn't like ISA Sound Blasters. Or there's something wrong with your computer's slot or motherboard.

Try testing your SB/SCB-55 combo in another slot, preferably in another computer. Then let's see what happens.

Thanks Honda for helping me trouble shoot.

The 2nd SCB-55 arrived on Friday and.. drumroll.. it works on the SB16!!! WOOT... which is now pointless cause I now have it hooked up to the MPU-401/AT
