Sorcerian = MT-32 (although the MT-32 soundtrack is very poor in many places, IMHO. Falcom has released a lot of very good Sorcerian recordings, which I'll one day make available on SMC) King's Quest 7 = SC-55 King's Quest 7 has no MT-32 support. It's one of those god-awful MT-32 games. No effort was made in making the GM-game MT-32 compatible, so pan flutes in GM (which there are a few of in KQ7) become StickyMS (a sound effect), from memory anyway. You'll find most tracks aren't worth listening to. Worst of all- try some of the English Horns in chapter 4 and so forth- don't listen with headphones, because they're ear shattering (MT-32 doesn't bend that way)! I know Alistair's opinion would be that is not the original soundtrack That's kind of an unfair thing to say- it implies I'm some hardass, unappreciative guy. I very much appreciate the stuff you've done with Jones, Dr Brain, etc. With KQ7, it's different to say KQ6 or QFG3, where some effort went in- the MT-32 soundtrack isn't just not the original score, it's the other way as well, it's really bad. If you're brave enough to attempt it, you'll find out by the time you're halfway through - Alistair

Well, there's the Microsoft GS softsynth which comes with every OS since Win98se, but I think it sucks. Alternatively, there's the Roland VSC-88 softsynth, which does a better job, but still doesn't quite make it.

That's kind of an unfair thing to say- it implies I'm some hardass, unappreciative guy. I very much appreciate the stuff you've done with Jones, Dr Brain, etc. I wasn't implying anything like, at least that wasn't my intention. Sorry if you took it that way. I was just referring to the fact that I've seen how you defend that the soundtracks sound better in their intended card and should be recorded the same way (which I'd probably agree if I could compare, but I only have CM32L, so I'm out of luck ). Anyway, thanks for the answer. That was what I wanted to know, if it was worth it to try KQ7 with MT32 sound. Since it's the only way I know it, it doesn't sound so bad (nor so great, I'll admit it) to me.

Yeah, and then we could work on getting it to sound like that in SCI Viewer.

I would, but I no longer have a SC-55; my SC-8820 is going to sound a bit different playing back the files and I think that would probably defeat the results you're after.

I am willing to check out the SC-8820, both SC-55 and SC-88 are supported by VSC

I'll see what I can do. It'll be a couple of days, though; I'm working this weekend and will be busy on Monday.

I've NEVER listened to the KQ7 soundtrack, nor played the complete game...but Alistair is very familiar with it and should be able to give some intuitive feedback as to how it should sound.

Posted a reply on my forums as Boogeyman posted there as well. For everyone who doesn't visit there (please do ), KQ7 will be worked on, after other projects are cleared, like FPFP and TIM. - Alistair

Alright, here's my finished rip: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9Q0P36SADone in Virtual Sound Canvas set to SC-55, with SCI Viewer set to General MIDI. I also included some remixes I got with GeneralUser GS. Please note that the title theme is actually digital. EDIT: Somehow, the main desert theme didn't make it in, so here it is: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=34M7UXQ8Also, here is a fixed version of Lizard's Lair: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J1C0WVHDFinally, here are the MIDIs: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O01KB5V1
