I'm currently the high bidder for it:  http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&item=200022645333&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

Things that scare me is the emphasis on "AS IS" and "unknown condition" because he has no AC adapter.  I'm pretty sure the AC adapter from my CM-64 will be fine for the job (1200mA is bigger than the 900mA asked for, but it's not high enough to really worry about, and higher is better than lower.)

I think it's worth under $20 + stupid shipping charges to find out.....  but I'd hate to spend $50 on a dud.  Sad

What do you think?

I, myself, probably wouldn't go for "Sold As Is" items, especially when it's a 10 year old (or older) piece of hardware.
That said, I suppose if it's just 50$, it maybe worth the risk.

I think you're worrying too much, it doesn't say unit not working or anything.

And if you are worried, don't bid too much. It's at 15 bucks.

One thing though- this isn't a SC-88VL, which is worth a lot because it's better than a SC-88 and very rare- this is a SC-88ST, which is basically worth much less because it's not much more useful than a sound card (though, no card exists for the SC-88 that I know of). I think it's worth about 100-200 US bucks.

I have withdrawn my offer...  I didn't notice that not only is the shipping charge to Canada exhorbant, but he was also charging $35 on top of that for international payment.  Sad

Sad Sad Sad  I really would have liked this, but not for that price.

Maybe I could snag a "virtual canvas" softsynth somewhere... they don't sell it anymore.

I make the assumption that "as is" and "untested" mean "broken." Most of the time it's absurd that no one would test the things that they list that way. One guy was selling a video projector that he bought at a local church auction but, of course, didn't test it. He bought a huge projector, brought it home, and didn't bother to hook a VCR up to it. I know that some people honestly don't test the things that they buy or don't know how (especially if it's a large pawn shop, etc).

But, it's definitely a Buyer Beware situation. Smiley

Glendower's point is very sound. I simply cannot understand why people sell "untested" things. I don't mean that everything should be fully tested, but at least superficially tested in order to know at least if it turns on and it seems to work. The contrary is absurd. If you've made the effort of paying and taking something to your home, it's quite ridicoulous that you don't make the little effort of testing it a bit. Because if it's the case it doesn't work, then you'll surely have lots more problems, taht will give you more headaches that taking a couple of minutes to test the item. And if you have tested it and know that it works, you can sell it for a higher price that if you sell it "untested" or "don't know if it works".

Makes you wonder why he'd have an SC-88 with no power supply.... or anything to test with.  I can't afford the risk though.

The unit may be $20, but add $35 and $27 and it's no longer cheap.
