I wasn't going to post this here until I had some music to show along with it, but I thought what the heck. This is a little project I'm working on in my spare time with SCI Studio by Brian Provinciano. Even though it's in the beginning stages I've learned a lot already. Some screens:

Looks cool!
It won't be following AGDI's storyline, right? just the original?

Yeah, just a 1:1 remake.

Looks good.  I once downloaded SCI Studio as well, but I gave up on it (I believe I was 14 at the time).

Thanks, Nytegard! Smiley I'm looking forward to it as well! Can't wait to see what it'll turn out like...

I've decided to whip up a little website for my little project here. I also integrated a new category into my main site's forums specifically for KQ2SCI. Most updates will be posted there from now on (so I don't have to go to all the forums I frequent and update lol). Please visit the site if you would like to keep up on the project and visit the forums if you've got any comments Smiley!

This is a REALLY COOL project!  I love the idea of MT-32 support and a text parsar.  I had no idea you were so talented in the area of graphic arts as well.  You mention "Ad Lib Support"...are you really going to create an Ad Lib score?

Yeah, all that needs to be done to support adlib, MT-32, tandy 3-voice, pc-speaker, and whatever else the SCI0 engine is capable of is to map the instruments to those drivers with Ravi's soundbox tool. I haven't used it yet but I'll see how it works once I start. It looks pretty straightforward though. Thanks for the words as well. I only found out myself since I started this project that I could actually draw these backgrounds. Smiley Believe me I was surprised!

I agree with Tom - VERY COOL ... Wink

I didn't play the KQ2VGA remake mainly because they altered the original story.  It's nice to see that you're doing a 1:1 remake to bring it more up to date matching with the likes of PQ2 and KQ4.  You make me want to do SQ2 this way -- if I had the time or talent to do it! Cheesy

"Altered" isn't exactly the right word for what Daniel did with the story; he "enhanced" it.  He didn't take anything from the original, but provided reasons for the character's behavior.  True, though...it IS different; changed; not a pure translation like what MI is doing.

I think it's be fun to break out my old AdLib Visual Composer to do a soundtrack for AdLib.  Wink

Visual Composer wasn't bad software.  I still have it, but no longer have my AdLib card to use it with.

I had my card/software for two years before using it with a game.  1st experience was LSL2.  Wow!   Huh

You know there's an Adlib plugin for Winamp that simulates the OPL3 almost perfectly?  Smiley  Won't work for visual composer, but it's cool for playing the old tunes.

VC will work with any Yamaha chip, so if you have an old machine with any kind of Soundblaster, you're set.  Smiley

I might give that a go.  When I had the AdLib card, I recorded a whole bunch of tunes to audio cassette; mostly original comps, but also a lot of Leisure Suit Larry stuff.  It's weird listening to it these days and seeing how far I've come.

Visual Composer will only work with Adlib cards? Not a Sound Blaster as well? I was going to ask if I could have a copy, but if it won't work...will it work with DOSBox maybe? I also remember recording music from games onto cassette tapes with our brand new sound board. I still have the tapes! I remember using SCI Decoder to extract the patch maps from different Sierra games and use them with other Sierra games to see what the music would sound like with the other games' instruments. The results were quite fascinating! I particularly thought the SQ3 theme played with Iceman patch maps sounded pretty dang good! But that was adlib. I've never tried it with the MT-32 yet....

Oh and regarding SQ2SCI, that's my next project. You'd be welcome to join me and help me do it once the time comes if you're really interested in working on it. Smiley

It works fine!  Anything with a Yamaha OPL2 or OPL3 chip.  Soundblasters welcome!

I'd love to do what I could ... I might not be artistic (graphically or musically) but I'd be game (oooh that pun hurt) to help with a SCI-remake of SQ2.  SQ's my favorite series and SQ2's been ignored long enough I think. Cheesy  Maybe I'll read some stuff on SCI Studio and see if it is understandable or not.  Heck, I never thought I'd understand Coldfusion and I got the basics of that easy enough ...

Definitely agree about SQ2 being left out. The SCI Studio script language is object based (if you know what that means, if you don't the tutorials explain it). I could definitely use some help in the scripting. Most of the script changes so far in KQ2 have been made with help from others at the AGI and SCI forums. The code is based on the Lisp programming language. Although someone is toying around with the idea of changing it to a more C++ style language.

Oh and BlueMax, would you mind emailing that program to me? I'd love to give it a whirl! I love adlib sounds...
