I want to use my computer with reason, cubase and other MIDI applications.
I wanted to know if I should be able to run the keyboard to the MT-32's MIDI IN and then connect a MIDI cable from the MT-32's THRU to the computers MIDI IN connector. would this relay the same midi message to the program?

Right now I have an IN and OUT midi conector from the computer, the keyboard only has a MIDI IN and MIDI OUT port it is a Roland HP137 Digital Piano.

I am not sure how I should have this connected up to work in the way that I'd like. I'd like to be able to interface the keyboard with the application and still use the MT-32's sounds.

HP-137 MIDI OUT Computer MIDI IN

Computer MIDI OUT MT-32 IN

Enable MIDI soft-thru in Reason, Cubase, etc., and you should be good to go.

This configuration requires the computer, but it will also allow your sequencing programs to drive the MT-32.

If you want the computer to run your digital piano, too, you should connect the MIDI Through port from the MT-32 to the MIDI In on the piano. Then turn off local on the piano. You will also want to modify the piano's MIDI parameters so that it does NOT respond on channels 2-10, if that's possible. Another way to handle that situation is to simply pick up another USB MIDI port and use it only on the Piano. Then the Piano's MIDI ports to one MIDI interface, and the MT-32's ports go to the other interface.
