1. Is the CM-64 100% compatible with the MT-32 as far as playing old DOS games goes?

2. Does it sound the same as the MT-32 when playing those DOS games?

3. Does it have an LCD screen for midi messages? From what I can see, it does not.

4. Can I use the same midi wire and big-to-small midi converter cables I am using now to connect my MT-32 to my SCC-1?

5. Does this unit suffer from the buffer overflow error?

For realistic intents and purposes, yes, but technically, no. As far as compatibility is concerned, the first two MT-32 versions feature "bugs" that are exploited in a few cases, resulting in sounds that are only correctly reproduced with a non-"newtype" MT-32.

Not that I've heard of.

I've come across one game that can't be played at all - Hoyle's Book of Games Volume 1. For some odd reason, Hoyle's plays MIDI data on the PCM part (channels 11-16) resulting in music that's totally unbearable.

Regarding the overflow - no, the CM-64 doesn't suffer from it. My CM-64 is infact older than my CM-32L, yet has no problem playing The Humans and One Step Beyond  Wink

For some odd reason...

This has been described elsewhere on the forum, and is a driver issue. Later versions of the SCI0 MT32.DRV will set parts 11-16 to "off," and can be substituted for the existing driver in all but a few cases.
