Does anyone here use Gravis Ultrasound Extreme as a Sound Blaster Pro?

The card has ES1688 codec-chip to support Sound Blaster Pro and Adlib standards, but when I fire up Wolfenstein 3d for example the Adlib music plays fine but after playing a couple of sound effects the machine totally freezes (requires a reset).

One thing to mention is that I have AWE32 in the same system. The Ultrasound Extreme works as an Ultrasound card without any problems (there is an original GF1 chip on-board) and when I initialize AWE32 instead of the Ultrasound in autoexec.bat the AWE32 works well too. Ultrasound Extreme works also well as an Adlib-only card, but sounds a little bit different than OPLx.

Reply to myself...

The problem seems to be in resourcing, since there are quite many devices in the system.

However the "not so easy way to go" solution:
-I built up a separate PC with plenty ISA-slots (Pentium era) and dug up one Sound Blaster Pro for the trick.

This is the way to go for ultimate compatibility, but somehow the face of my wife was worth seeing when "one more of those tin cans" appeared in my "work" room... unique.

Now, if someone would sponsor me a little spare time  Grin.
