I've been using Emu X midi USb adaptors, and they seem ok.
No idea whether these need a firmware loader, but they definitely need drivers under XP.

Dave,

Is it possible to post a basic guide to what is involved to getting DOSemu and USB sound drivers to work on Linux?
I'm interested in running SPG on an Asus EE, but don't want to get in over my head..

Sorry for the long delay, I don't check in here very often.

The process should be quite simple. Install DOSemu, create the symlinks from dosemu-midi and dosemu-midi_in to their appropriate devices (I use the ALSA virtual MIDI driver to give me four virtual MIDI ports), then connect the MIDI ports to the USB device via aconnect or a GUI such as QJackCtl or Patchage.

If you need more detailed help you should probably contact me off-list, unless others are interested in this process.
