I made a developer's diary video of the recording process of making a track for the Space Quest II Remake. Thought you all might find it interesting (if only to laugh at my mess of a setup lol). It starts out with a hand-held camera (yes my camera-handling skills leave much to be desired) showing my musical equipment setup, and then goes into a screen-captured video explaining the actual recording process. Enjoy.

Great clips! Enjoyed watching them!

BTW: Did you ever thought of supporting the MT-32 in the SQ remakes the oldschool way? I mean to give people who have the MT-32 on their desk the option to choose it as midi device like in the old days instead of playing some *.oggs in the background? I sort of miss the feeling to proudly choose MT-32 in the setup menu...

Thanks.

That would be a neat idea, actually. But I doubt they'd go for it. Another dude suggested adding a parser interface to SQ2 along with the P&C. Eventually they decided it was more a novelty than an actual useful addition and wouldn't be worth the time implementing since most people wouldn't even use it anyway. I think the same case would apply for an MT-32 MIDI soundtrack. Plus I'm not the only musician for SQ2 now, so it wouldn't really be possible seeing as the other guy uses sounds that just can't be duplicated in MIDI. But don't worry, SQ2SCI will have an MT-32 soundtrack...

I never thought of making an MT-32 MIDI soundtrack for an AGS game, though. It's possible, too! That'd definitely make things feel nostalgic.

Definitely cool, I've been taking "behind-the-scenes" pictures of SMC recording activities- I'll have to check it out.

Great video, Brandon! I really enjoyed it. Having the technology but not the actual knowledge of creating music, I've always wondered how these things are done.

...oh, and your video recording abilities aren't sucky at all!  Wink

One question:

Where the hell is the camera mounted?  On your nose?

Heh, it's a digital camera not a camcorder. But it also takes videos. So it's a lot easier to move around than a camcorder probably would be.

Sorry if I made some of you sick Smiley.

I see. Or what about a sort of easter egg to support all the "real thing" MT-32 owners? A short MT-32 midi intro incl. a welcome msg on the MT-32 display. Perhaps a small midi detection routine will do the job - or you just ask before the intro if real midi hardware is connected as a tribute to the old MT-32 days...

Great.  Love the space quest series and it'll be cool to play a new version.

I still have my CM32L from back in the day.  I found an MT32 at a pawn shop but it disappeared on me.  That really sucks.

Looking forward to it when it's done.

Sorry, didn't see your post, Doctor. I'll pitch the idea of having a MID for the intro for MT-32 owners. That would be awesome.
