I worked on this in March for the monthly Dwelling of Duels video game remix competition. It won 4th place.

Great! Sounds very "oldfieldish" btw (saw Mike live back in the early 80s in Hamburg) Wink
This is like a band playing - did you play the guitar? And what other stuff (soft?) did you use?
Reminds me on the fantastic "Iconoclast" PC Demo Soundtrack btw:

I recorded the guitars, yes (the bas is also my guitar run through a ring modulator bass effect on my Boss GT-6 pedal). Everything else is sequenced. I used East West StormDrum for the drum sounds. First time using them, too. I think they're pretty good. The strings and brass are just a soundfont with reverb and chorus effects over top. I recorded everything with Sonar 5 Producer.

i think i told you this on smc already, but i agree with bluemax.  i have this on a playlist in iTunes/iPod and i listen to it at least twice a week.  It ROCKS.

Be interesting what you could do giving this treatment to something like PQ3.

Thanks, dudes.

Re: PQ3, I don't know how well that would transfer over to metal being an electronic soundtrack. Would be interesting I suppose. PQ1, however, would be a much better candidate. Some other ideas I'd like to hear metalized are KQ5 (though some of that soundtrack has been done in metal already), KQ1, and SQ3. Can't really think of some others....maybe Rise of the Dragon.

Yeah, I got a couple KQ5s from that DoD site you entered at.  SQ3 would be a short one I'd think, I can only really think of the main theme and Fester's World O Wonders being really unique for that game.

It could be a half-decent mix. There's also the Black Hole theme and the Sierra theme. Garbage Scow. Arnoid's short-but-still-original themes.

SQ3 could work but it would need to be short and sweet, not repeating themes over and over- alternately, it could work for a non-medley, just one track you take and really go wild with, like Fester's theme, which would work well I feel.

I think KQ1, PQ3 and ROTD would be excellent candidates for that sort of thing, especially ROTD and KQ1, which I both feel would make for insanely good remixes- Beanstalk, Clouds/Giant, Oak Tree, Condor from KQ1, Blade's Apartment, ROTD theme, The Date, Emway music, and plenty of the later ROTD stuff from ROTD. Two very underrated scores IMHO.

One guy asked me to make an alternate metal soundtrack for the upcoming SQ2VGA Cheesy. I don't know if I'd have the time for something like that...

ROTD's best tune is the end theme where you win and the girlie lives.  Wink

Why don't you write it in MIDI? That way it's always there until you get the orchestral samples you need. Myself, I'm on the lookout for some good realistic-sounding orchestral sounds...that'll be the next thing I get.

I should sell you my Garritan Personal Orchestra software.  Awesome sounds, but I can't play live so I need Finale/Sibelius to really get something out of it.  Anyone else can just fire up a sequencer and start playing.

You can use Anvil Studio or some other free MIDI sequencer and just input notes in the piano roll like MODs. No live playing needed.

....but how much would you sell it for? Smiley
