I've recently acquired two supplemental MT-32 manuals, one of which was produced by Alexander Publishing, and the other by Roland Corp. Once I get a new scanner, I plan to make some "professional" PDFs that perhaps Tom won't mind hosting, as my intent is to make as much information available as possible. (Not that any of it is new information, but still, I think it might be useful to someone out there.)

The Alexander Publishing book, simply titled, "Roland MT32," is somewhat basic, covering mainly simple-use operation and scenarios. Disappointingly, it doesn't go into any advanced/programming detail. Ah well, because...

The Roland-produced book, "Using the Roland MT-32 Multi-Timbre Sound Module," is fantastic. It's what the MT-32 manual should have been all along. (Consequently, does anyone know if it was, in fact included with some MT-32s?) I'd been looking for this book for a few months, having first read about it here, in the author's bio.

The Roland book is very detailed, covering advanced operations, and explaining all of the MT-32 synth/programming parameters. It even describes what the overflow icon is supposed to represent (a cup that "runneth over").

Picked up a rather nice scanner at a thrift shop...

I'm scanning everything straight into Photoshop for editing, and will then convert the TIFFs into a PDF, adding bookmarks, etc. I spent over an hour cleaning up and reconstructing the cover image alone. A labor of love, to be sure. Tongue

The same.  Roland's LA synthesizers have such a different method of programming in comparison to the FM synths from Yamaha.  I would love to become more familiar with how to create sounds on my MT-32 and CM-32L

Just a quick update...

I've received permission from both Roland Corporation, and the author, Bob O'Donnell, to share the Roland-produced book. Given that this is a copyright-protected work, I'm very happy right now.  Cheesy

Five years ago you may have not gotten anything but a cease-and-desist order from Roland.   Tongue

So, I'm still working on editing the scans, as I have time. For anyone who can't wait, however, here is an auction that includes both the Alexander Publishing and Roland-produced books...

What about the service notes? Anyone got a full scan of those? I have the CM-64 and CM-300/500 service notes if anyone's interested.

Interested in the CM-64 service notes as I plan to mod mine a little. Smiley

Wouldn't sharing them be against copyright laws unless you have permission from Roland? Smiley

I think that's why he got permission from Roland Smiley

I'd be interested in having a look at them as well, all I've used my CM-32L for is playing old games. I wouldn't mind learning more about how to operate the thing.

Yes, but honestly, Roland never sold them and they're not available anymore. No one loses any money, and it's not like I'm going "CM-64 SERVICE NOTES HERE!" all over the interwebs.
