Here's a rarity:

http://www.geocities.com/endre1952/backtothefuture2.mid

Recorded from the 1990 EGA action game "Back to the Future 2". I wonder how many people played this with Roland sound, the MT-32 support in the game doesn't work, unless you copy the Roland driver over the Adlib one. I believe this was composed for the MT-32.

Nice tune! BTW: Reminds me on Final Fantasy 8 (?) - sounds rubbish with the software synth (only choice), finally someone patched the game for midi hardware output...

I'll have a look if I can still find the patch on my old HD...

The most obscure game music I've ever heard is the "Trax" music played in Deathtrack (when you're racing). No custom patches but the music throws the module into 32 poly instantly.

Do you happen to have the MIDI files from this game?

I actually recorded some of the music from the game (and converted it to GM, though not very successfully).

Here's a zip file with all the files.

Enjoy!

I love the Deathtrack tunes! The intro/menu tune was actually recycled in another Dynamix game: Ghostbusters 2. That one supports the MT-32 too.

BTW: On your site "Buzz Aldrin’s Race Into Space (1993) Roland Sound Canvas version" is linked to the cd version (and cd to sc55). But sounds great anyway Wink

You can rip *.mid with DosBox? Do you record it using a midi sequenzer?

DosBox has an internal MIDI recording option (and also an OPL output recording option, though it doesn't work very well).

IIRC, you need to press CTRL-SHIFT-F8 to start and stop the recording. It's not perfect either, but it does record sysex as well as MIDI commands.

It's CTRL-ALT-F8. Works perfect (incl. sysex) so far - just recorded the superb Noctropolis music.  Cool
Great feature of DosBox. In the 90s I had to rip the midi files (without sysex) using an editor.

Anyway, glad I could help.

Noctropolis eh- that reminds me, I got in touch with the composer, and we had a long chat. But after that I never heard from him again. Man, that score was excellent (shame the game was only half-excellent Tongue ).

Looking forward to record all the music as *.mid using dosbox. Did you chat about composing stuff (did he use sort of a beta of the game to get the music right for the different locations?)?
