I just found something really annoying out about my CM-300. It's panpot is reversed just like the MT-32! I don't understand why Roland did this, does the Sound Canvas 55 have the same thing?

Then again, this is Roland, so... Plug in a pair of headphones, to rule out a swapped connection, and send CC10s while playing some random notes.

Can't you just switch your left-and-right plugs manually?

Since I don't have any 1/4 jack headphones, I tried another audio cable that uses a different line-in on my Audigy 2 - to have the same reversal. I tried various MIDIs against the built in Audigy MIDI hardware and my MU10 - to get the same panpot as those, the cables have to be switched

The SC-55 pans 'normally', the MT-32 is reversed.
As for the CM-300, I don't know. Could you be plugging the cables in incorrectly (i.e. left from one into the right of the plug at the other end)?
Otherwise, maybe it is all backwards. But if it genuinely is two synths in one box, then it might be on your end.

As stated in my last post, I've tried two different cables and two different inputs - result is the same Otherwise, maybe it is all backwards. But if it genuinely is two synths in one box, then it might be on your end.
That's the CM-500 - CM-300 is just the SC-55 source, the reason I was asking if the SC-55 was reversed too My guess is Roland reversed the CM-300 to keep compatability with the rest of the CM series.

Probably not, else the manual would give an of indication of such. Instead, the MIDI implementation shows a correct panpot, and this little tidbit is mentioned for Bank 127: "127 of control number 0 is set to the same sound arrangement of the MT-32 ... Pan directions are reversed from an actual MT-32, so to rectify this, reverse the L/R connections of the Audio Output jacks." If it truly is reversed, it appears to have been non-intentional.

Must have been non-intentional then

Is there an easy way to tell if the panpot is reversed on an SC-55? Does this mean that the stereo has to be reversed on the CM-300?

Don't worry, it was actually my own stupid mistake. Seems these cables I bought have the left and right reversed, while the high-quality one I own doesn't

Easiest way to check is to play a MIDI that has a far-panning instrument, or if you have an actual SC-55 (not a SCC-1 or others), while a MIDI is playing, set an instrument on solo and pan it really far left or right- and wear headphones.
