Tom, question: Not sure if you know, but will the remake remove some of the 'day' quests? Like, on day X you have to do something, or else you lose (eg ask some people about something- who'd know to do it?). That sucked badly about the original QFG2, and I was wondering if they fixed that, or 'kept the original exactly, just remade' and added the little things like mini-games.

No, I'm afraid the "fixed schedule"-structure of the original QFG2 still remained intact. Some people like the fixed structure because they felt it gave the game a sense of urgency, others didn't like it because they felt they didn't get the time to solve the puzzles or raise their stats at their own pace. Changing the day-structure of the game wouldn't have been a simple quick change though...it'd be about very radically changing the core mechanics of the game. We eventually decided not to go there.

The situations you're talking about are the elementals attacking the city. Yes, once one appears, you have 2 game days (3 in one case) to defeat it before it destroys the city. That said, two game days is usually ample time to defeat an elemental and since there are point&click trees now, finding out the required info needed to defeat them is usually not difficult.

Theoretically, it IS possible to get into dead ends, but it requires concious effort to do so. Accidental dead ends like KQ5 had in abundance won't be in QFG2. (the original didn't really have them to begin with)

And yeah, the game's release is very close. Once the site is finished, we'll be able to finally toss it up for the masses to experience.

Thanks for the response, Erpy, it clears things up. Yeah, I guess it would be kind of sacreligious to change the game mechanics, and that's what I like about AGDI, they don't do that.

I actually haven't played the game in so long, I might not remember it off by heart- now I'm looking forward to a playthrough Cheesy

I note the way you said 'toss it up' with interest- like you just want to get it out there to be done with it. That said, I feel that way about a bunch of my current Sierra projects..

BTW- is Lunar your favourite series, or what?

Yeah, I liked the Lunar series. A good example of a game where the writing could make you forget the lack of modern visuals. Something about Working Designs fascinated me too.

No, QFG2VGA won't have that radical design overhaul that KQ2+ received. It wasn't necessary either...the original KQ2 was very limited in terms of design and a direct remake would have people playing through once for nostalgica and then forget about it. QFG2 was the complete opposite though, there were so many things you could try or talk about in addition to just sticking to the optimal path people still find new things one and a half decade later. QFG2 had very little to flesh out. We did add little extras to experience here and there, but someone just following the main path with a walkthrough won't even know they're there.

I hadn't really thought about the way I phrased my statement, but you may have a point. I'm not really part of the website design, so right now I'm merely being idle and waiting for the final loose ends to be tied up. I'm probably more anxious about the release than even the most impatient fan...after all, all the fans had to do during the last couple of years was waiting which is a very passive process compared to spending so much time with the game I'm almost married to it by now.

So I guess a few of us are going to download QFG2VGA when it comes out this weekend? According to the update on the AGDI page, it should be out by Sunday.

Congrats to the AGDI team and Tom! Hopefully it can win some AGS awards this year.

The ga-jillion dollar questions for me are

(a) when Tom will be permitted to unlock his 'O'-fficial soundtrack page

and

(b) when Tom will have the time to do so...   Wink

I'm going to give it a few days for the download servers to cool down.  Maybe take a peek at the game next weekend.   Cool
