About 4 years later, is this topic still 'actual' ?
I mean, is anybody still interested in additions to the comparison 2005 page?

If by 'actual' you mean modern sound cards then I think the answer would be no.

Personally I would love to see the Yamaha Waveforce 192XG included, but that's because I own the card. In my opinion the default mode is slightly better than the S-YXG50. For me the waveforce was the hardware version of the S-YXG50 with better reverb/chorus (and excellent PCI DOS support). Not sure if anyone would care though.

I was aiming at my collection of midi devices (including the creative midi blaster) and all the wavetable boards I have from the past.
I recenlty acquired an Akai general midi module and recorded the midi file from that page with it. Doesn't sound very nice but just for the sake of it. Smiley
Also recorded from my MU2000 already.

- Creative Midi Blaster Sound module

Good job. Of the daughter boards I like the NEC XR385 and Terratec WT64 the best.

EDIT: Allright Salient. You got me motivated enough to record the Waveforce performing the reference midi. If anyone's interested, here it is:

EDIT: Oops. I posted the wrong mp3. Here's it:

When I originally put the page together in the late 1990's/early 2000's, people were still using all these cards, routinely.  Today, only a few people use retro systems containing these old sound cards -- and only a few people still play the old adventure games...so I abandoned the Sound Card Comparison Page.
