I've been experiencing some oddities with my SC-8820's handling of bulk dumps in some midi files and I wonder if anyone has any idea of the cause. The offending tunes can be downloaded from here: http://www.mirsoft.info/gmb/music_info.php?id_ele=MTMyMzc=

In particular, the problem is most noticable in onenight.mid. The track was written for SC-88 and for some reason whoever composed it decided to send bulk dumps setting up each track rather than individual sysex messages + CCs (despite this being total overkill as the patch select and all of the control change messages are sent separately in addition to the dump).

What is happening is that some (and only some) of the channels are acting as if they are in GM mode, i.e. they do not respond to bank select messages (and assumedly any other type of GS specific message). This means that some tracks are incorrectly using the capital tones rather than the variations they are supposed to be using. In onenight.mid the special effects track does not play at all correctly. Now, I can fix this (and already have) by removing the bulk dumps and replacing their non-redundant contents with sysex but I am curious as to why this happens, especially as the files play fine on my M-GS64. Anyone got any ideas?
