Just wondering what is the recommendation for a XT/AT class machine on the SB cards?

I am thinking XT: SB 2.0 and AT: SB Pro or SB 16

Obviously the XT can't have 16bit cards so maybe two recs? One for XT and one for AT? This will be for playing period specific games.  So compatability w/ the most games and sound quality is of utmost importance.

Or is the best sound card an Adlib?

TIA!

For either an XT or an AT class machine, a SB 2.0 would be best.  AT class machines with a 286 processor are unlikely to run software well that takes advantage of the features or a Pro or 16.

O.K. Picked up a SB 2.0, CT1350B to be exact, and of course it is missing the CMS upgrade. Anyone know of a source for the upgrade or the efforts to reverse engineer one ever went anywhere? Failing that, anyone want to sell their working chips/kit? Smiley TIA!

I'm not the greatest expert in this topic (and I mean it!), but I think you're out of luck. Based on info I've learned in this forum, I think it's nearly impossible to obtain one of the chips needed for the CT-1350 CMS upgrade. It's easier with the CT-1320, if I'm correct.

Correct me if I'm wrong, because I still have my Sound Blaster 2.0 I bought way back in 1992, and it's missing the CMS upgrade.

The upgrade kits for the 2.0 are quite rate. I happen to have one but I use a 1.5 + CMS chips anyway. So I would recommend finding a 1.5 as the CMS chips for that card are easy to find and quite cheap.

If you are interested in swapping cards send me a message.

I am not following you. You want to swap cards i.e. I give you my 2.0 and you give me your 1.5? I am interested in getting a 2.0 with CMS. If you want to sell your kit which you have no use for let me know. Otherwise I can wait until one shows up. It eventually will.  Thanks.

Mau1wurf1977: I might trade my 2.0 card with you, but I'm located in Hungary and it's something of a relic, I bought it during the fall of 1992, and it's still working. Not a lot of actual items survived from my favorite era of gaming (1989-93).

Damn shipping costs...

My 1.5 has an issue anyway. The volume wheel is buggered. Needs to be pushed a certain way to hear both channels Tongue
