Hi there,
Trying to get my synth working on my desktop which is running Windows 7. I realise Windows 7 doesn't really have the same sort of MIDI set up that previous windows have had, but I've seen some people online who have had success with the Vista driver. I did indeed try this and it said it was installed but I can't for the life of me get the machine to play MIDI at all...

The unit works fine with my laptop and the other two XP machines in the house, but not with this new unit. Sad Any ideas, or workarounds perhaps?

Many thanks.

I am no expert but the MIDI picker tools I've tried work fine most of the time... as long as you stick to one USB-MIDI cable. Again that's just what I've observed from my personal experience.

Other than the usual PC troubleshooting you can try a different usb-midi adapter. Some people report the generic usb-midi cable doesn't work for them. You may want to try a different cable (be it generic or brand name). Some modern sound cards still carry the MIDI port, but they are usually pricey. You can also try using an additional MIDI device that can serve as an intermediary between your PC and your SC unit.

I have my SC-8850 and 8820 both working fine in Win7 64bit.   As I remember it, I had to set the driver installer to "vista" compatibility mode, then everything just worked.  Give that a try if you havn't.  Then get "Putzlowitschs Vista-MIDIMapper" and you should be good to go.

Hi there! Cheesy I've got it working!

Apparently the driver had already in the past installed correctly, but I never got that midi mapper tool to work. Now it works as long as I don't use windows media player which I believe was the problem initially, it always went back to the software GS.

Now I'm listening to some old Sound Canvas Users Groups from Kim Burgaand again! Cheesy

Ta muchly!

Likewise, lurking seems to go hand in hand with the old Sierra boards these days (sadly).

Glad to hear you're well. I left my old machine back in Oz (now in USA), so will have to do another one someday. Emulating oldies on my DS lately.

I still use my synths, editing some MIDI's with the SC-8850 and SC-55 at the moment.
Still love that 8850. I know you have one- it's a good device.

In the UK as always, Sir? Great to see you again, again Wink
