Is it safe to connect a Roland D-550 LA sound module to a CM-500 using MIDI THRU (to play the D-550 using an MPU-401/AT card connected to the CM-500)?  Or would could this potentially cause any damage to either synth module, in terms of scrambling or overwriting the patches on either synth incorrectly?

Please advise?? Just wanted to check, so that I don't potentially end up frying the circuitry on either sound module...thanks in advance for your advice!

P.S. Also for D-550 MIDI playback purposes, does it matter if the connected CM-500 is in Mode B or Mode C?

Bump...anyone please?

Hm, I guess maybe perhaps the forum just isn't as frequented as it used to be, in times past??  Sad  Have sent 2 threads in a row now; no replies to either though?

The model IDs are different, so the D-550 will ignore any SysEx intended for the CM-500, and vice-versa. Likewise, since everything received at the MIDI IN port is re-transmitted via MIDI THRU, it won't matter which mode the CM-500 is set to (it just needs to be powered-on).
