Are there plans for complete soundtracks for King's Quest 7 and 8 in the works?

Not on my part.. still waiting to play KQ7/8 in the next few weeks (exams finish Monday).

I'm sure Mr Lewandowski will be here in a minute to explain his reason.

I'll see in the future, though.

The only songs for KQ:MOE I'm planning on dealing with are those linked (on the main Index page) to SierraPlanet.com.  There's quite a selection there, though not the whole soundtrack.

I've been working on the KQ7 soundtrack for years, but as you can see....haven't made a lot of progress on it.

I'm currently halfway through playing the game King's Quest VII, and thoroughly enjoying it (and the music on the SC-55).

I fully intend to do a soundtrack CD for this game. Maybe MT-32 mixes, but at this stage SC-55 enhanced GM tracks only, plus some digital. I totally sympathise with Tom, the MIDI music will be hard to record, with the saving-style of the game and a couple of other issues unique to KQ7. Still, I'll see what I can do. I'd love to hear a soundtrack myself, and if you want to get a job done, you gotta do it yourself, and all that.

By the way, what do you think of the score for KQ7 Tom? I don't believe I've heard your thoughts on it.

I've never played the game, and have only heard a few songs from it...and it's been quite a while since I've heard them.  I have a lot of the MIDI files for the game, but they're somewhat corrupted.  Missing controllers and such.  I abandoned the project of posting the KQ7 soundtrack because of the poor condition of the MIDI files; it was way too much work to fix them.  I'd have to play the game and record them myself if I wanted to post them, but my lack of interest in the game killed my motivation to do so.

I gave a short on recording the kq7 soundtrack and have recorded about 12 midi tracks from, mainly screen based sequences.

The event based sequences are a little tricky to record , for the game only lets you resume from the point you last played and does not let you restore to an earlier scene. But I might work on them later when I have chance.

I was going to reply in a shocked tone, but I suppose I agree again Tom, the game was hard to swallow, as it were, at the beginning. But since the awkward frist 5-10 mins of gameplay I've been thoroughly enjoying it, finding the game (and music) SQ6-ish, and quite good. Probably because Grandstaff/Kehler worked on it.

Besides, I love Sierra music. And this game's score is amazing so far.

Recorded 7 MIDI's from Ch. 1 today, more tomorrow.

Regards,
- Alistair

P.S. Bevil, unfortunately we both have version 1.0 of the game, it seems. The version 2.0 CD lets you have multiple 'bookmarks'.

While playing through the game myself, I will quit at certin times and copy the current save and catalogue file to a new folder. That way at least, I can have saves throughout the game.

In addition to the lack of a good save feature, the first version had alot of nasty bugs and lockups and I remember it lagging pretty badly during certain sequences, back in 94 when I was still using a 486.It seemed Sierra spent very little time beta testing this game in order to meet an early release date.

Plus, version 2 has DOS support (a DOS version), which I prefer over Windows anyday.

I remember a bug that made it impossible to continue in the third chapter...never got past it. I got the newer version with the Roberta Williams Anthology, but haven't had the time to check it out yet..the DOS-version looks good though.

I own the second revision of King's Quest VII, if it's the only one to include a DOS version; if it's wanted, I'd be willing to upload a BIN/CUE to an FTP server, for the benefit of those who only own revision 1.

My CD has a DOS version. I might have version 2 already. If so, then I'd hate to see saving options for v1. Tongue

Seriously, I'm half-way through Chapter 3. Music's wonderful, and seriously guys, Chapter 2 was very classic-Sierraish, and very enjoyable.

So far it definitely seems worth playing.

- Alistair

P.S. I'm having surgery on Tuesday, and playing things by ear. QFG4CD's my main priority, KQ7CD I intend to do sometime. Depends how long I'm 'out of action' for. But it will be done in the next month or so! Cheers.

I wish I had version 2. A multiple save feature(makes the music a whole lot easier to record) and a dos version is definately welcome.

Do you by any chance have an FTP I could upload it to, then? I've not yet quite dealt with router issues that make most uploads difficult, but FTPs are fine.

Thanks , but I can't think of any ftp sites, that lets you upload 650 meg . Maybe, I can try setting up my own ftp server on my comp, to where you can upload. I don't think DCCing via icq or mirc will work unless you open up some ports in your router settings.

Mm... I've not done that yet, and to be honest I have no idea how. ^.^;; Setting up your own server would work. It would be less than 650MB with compression, of course. ^.~

Okay i'll set up the server then
218.186.36.99 port 21
login/password: upload
I'm not sure if it'll work, cause i'm also using a router, but I have made the necessary changes in the settings. Anyway i'll be at the queststudios irc channel, should you encounter any problems. Thanks again

It seems to be working! The CUEsheet is uncompressed, by the way, but the image itself iz BZIP2ed to bring it from ~600MB to ~400MB. ^.~

I have the file, but i think its not complete. Its 302 meg in size and cannot be extracted. Would it be possible for you to resume upload? I believe my ftp software supports resume.

Unfortunately, someone closed the terminal session I was using to send it. >.< My apologies. I've tried to resume the upload, but it appears I don't have permission to append or overwrite files on your server. Could you change that, please? I'll finish the upload once you do.
