Hello,
Hi everyone. I was wondering if a Robin MP3 collection could be put on the ToDo list.

It's running great through TiMiDity, but it's note quite the same thing. I was really impressed by how much better SQ3 sounded in Roland-generated MP3 form, even over my old Yamaha OPL-3 (which I consider an excellent card for MIDI). I would be grateful if the excellent music of "Conquest Of The Longbow" could receive similar treatment.

It doesn't have to be whole soundtrack, but a few selections would be so cool!

Keep up the good work! I was really happy to find this place.

I did a recording of this soundtrack and saved it as 48kHz, 224kbps MP3-files. This was a while back before I had tried Vorbis. I could upload it if anyone has any space.

Hey there,

Some people from this forum recorded the QuestStudios MT-32 MIDI soundtrack as OGG Vorbis a while back. But, it was 48Khz! What's people obession with it? All I found was that there was the most awful hiss in the files. (And most CD burners don't like it.)

Oh yes, that was my recording (I did it in Vorbis after all). The reason why they're in 48kHz is that the higher the sampling- and bitrate the better the noise reduction filters are at reducing noise without distorting the music.
Also, I can't find any hiss. I'm using Koss' studio-reference headphones to listen.

They should be on DrJ's FTP, if they're not I'll be happy to re-upload them somewhere else.

I don't know what his FTP address is, but I've set up a temporary FTP server on draft.engsoc.org, user: robin, pass: midi.

Please upload if you will. If needed, I'll make them available via http.

The hiss can be a result of a soundcard or driver that doesn't really handle 48KHz. I've noticed it in particular with old SB-16 cards, where 48KHz files play, but with a very noticable hiss.

More recent cards should be fine, though...

So if I extract waves using OggdropXPd, and burn them, it should have no hiss, right?

- Alistair

P.S. Yeah, haven't tried actually playing them with my 48KHz card. But I never get those issues with Tom's 48KHz MP3's.

I don't get any hissing. Is your OGG library up to date?

Can we laymen get access to your FTP, by the way, suwalski?

Absolutely. That is one of the things I promised.

You'll find them at http://pat.suwalski.net/misc/robin-midi-ogg.zip

I chose to dump them into one file, because there are 39 tracks.  The download is about 80 megs.

I want to thank Suwalski for sharing Longbow's soundtrack
I also wanted to record it ages ago but I have never been able to find out time enough! So I really appreciate your job.

The same is for Conquest of Camelot (and others), which is waiting to be digitally recorded from mt32 from years!

Bye

I remember a long time ago, MusicallyInspired (who used to run my site with me) had uploaded a CoC MT-32 soundtrack to my FTP, but having never played the game very far, never got around to securing a copy of my own..

I believe they were mono, at any rate. But I'd ask him if I were you, he's a member of this forum.

- Alistair

P.S. Yes, thanks for uploading the score again, and thanks to Zemus and DrJ also.

Yes, I had the full COC MT-32 soundtrack completed, but it was mono and there was a bit of hissing and other unreasonable sounds in the whole thing because my line input blew on the sound card I had at the time and I could only use the mic input. So I later removed it off the site before I left. There was some things I didn't like about it anyway. Some things that bugged me that I felt were not very professional about it. Like noticeable reverb setting changes. I'm not sure if it's still on the server somewhere or not.

Surprisingly, there are glorious game soundtracks that nowadays are still not common around, for example Gabriel Knight, Sorcerian, Camelot among others.
Fortunately meanwhile there is QuestStudios.
I promised myself to find out the time to record them by my own, but I have not been able to do it so far. It would be simplier if I could leave my old equipment (dos pc+mt32) out of their dusty packages! But my wife does not agree of course

Suwalski: Thankfully, not yet. I'm sure they'll find me some day.
Honestly, I had no idea. Might revamp it sometime.

As for GK, I still mean to digitally record that one, in fact was listening to some old text mixes of mine today on the train. But I've learnt SC SysEx reverb now, and so will redo them sometime.

Zemus: No, but I could extract the resources and convert them if you so wish, been meaning to do it anyway.

Sorry to bring back a topic from so long ago, but I just happened to see this. Any chance that a copy of that zip file is still online anywhere? And if not, does anyone by any chance have mp3/ogg versions of Campfire, The Widow or Nottingham easily enough at hand to wing it over to me via e-mail, msn or something?

Thanks, and once again, sorry to resurrect this topic from its oh-so-peaceful slumber....
