I'm not sure about the General Midi soundtrack, but Alistair has the digital soundtrack on his to-do list...

By the way, wasn't there a request similar to this one some time ago?

Digital soundtrack? There wasn't much pre-recorded music for this game.

I was thinking about doing this GM soundtrack, actually. Only thing stopping me is my lack of confidence in putting SysEx's in files. But I feel I could do this.

It'd help with my final mixed CD at any rate. Which is still definitely on the cards, it just depends on how many people out there want it.

Okay, achile- KQ7GM.MID will happen. Just give me.. a while. ;P

And on KQ7, none of the files on this site actually play back properly! I can send someone proper versions to replace them if desired. (There's a whole bunch of unnecessary controllers.)

P.S. EDIT: Oh yeah- what did you mean, Zemus?

By pre-recorded music I meant music that had been recorded by some synth and put on the CD in a digital audio format Smiley
The logo, title screen and movies were the only places where this game had pre-recorded music if I remember correctly.

Jan said 'digital soundtrack', and by that he meant I am going to record a soundtrack CD (double) of the game's music, sometime. I got a fair way through it a couple of months ago, but too busy to finish it.. the score needs a fair bit of enhancing.

Making a KQ7GM.MID would assist me, so I feel it would be a worthwhile project. Same reason I made LB2MT.MID.

If you're not playing it through an MT-32, that's the reason.  The MT-32 is not General MIDI compliant.

I'm not sure...

But I think it has to do with playing KQ7 through a soundcard while selecting the MT-32 as output.

I'm certainly curious as well. Sceptical, to say the least, but curious. DO tell us more, Boogeyman, evidently you like KQ7 and its' music.

To answer both replies: Well, do you own a Sound Canvas, Boogeyman? How have you done this score? Are their Roland MT-32 enhancements? How much music did you end up with? Did you cover the whole 6 chapters?

That'd be a good start! Come on, guys.

I still fail to see what you are so sceptical about. achile464 asked for a GM soundtrack. Boogeyman said he recorded the soundtrack digitally. No one requested enhancements specifically. no one said it had to be recorded from a Sound Canvas and no one claimed to have recorded each and every theme that appears in the game. Why claim scepticism? on what grounds and on what basis?

Does that mean, there's some standard that must be met?

That's where I'd lay my money as to the above quote.

Anyway, Boogeyman, I'm sure most of us appreciate your work.  It's quite a task to put together a game's soundtrack.  I know...I've done it,  for Sound Blaster, Sound Canvas, Yamaha XG, and the MT-32.  But it doesn't matter which sound device it was made for, it's still a lot of work.

Hey, it was never meant as an insult! It's taken me two years for me to *almost* prove myself in the community. It's not like we expect this digital work to be amazing.. hence 'scepticism'. You don't know how good the work is!
Besides, KQ7 has a LOT of music. After Willy Beamish, I bet it's the largest Sierra score. So, I put money on some being missed.
And it's difficult to record MIDI from the game, due to the nature of the game itself. I refer to the digital audio drivers. You'd know if you tried to record from it. Smiley
Reminds me, I'll upload some individual MIDI's to replace the buggy ones on the KQ page if you like, Tom/Ari/et al.

But enough from me. I'll wait until I see/hear this. I'm always willing to encourage Sierra music recorders! There's only Tom and myself who actually regularly mix MIDI as digital and not just rerecord MIDI's recorded by others (as far as I know).

And certainly I support this guy, 2 years ago I was recording music at the wrong tempo at low quality with a poor GM sound card. How times have changed!

Ari has done a ton of MT-32, XG, GS, and GM MIDI editing and recording as well, which I'm very greatful for.  Marten, and many others have also contributed over the years in this manner.

Although there are dozens of 'digital' soundtracks on these pages, this site is first and foremost a MIDI site.  That's where I want to return my focus.  Ari's just uploaded a variety of MIDI's for GM, XG, and GS, along with one digital file.  A perfect balance.

Quest Studios is pleased to present this collection of Sierra On-Line music files -- all original scores acquired directly from the games. The goal is simple:  to keep the wonderful music of Sierra On-Line alive and well...and available to all. These song files are designed for playback on a variety of sound devices, including the Roland MT-32 Sound Module, General MIDI compliant sound cards, Yamaha XG compatibles, and Roland Sound Canvas GS cards and modules. Although our emphasis is on Sierra "MIDI" music, we've also included a variety of digital audio (MP3 & Ogg Vorbis) files so that anyone with a sound card can enjoy these soundtracks!
